Definately too much. But I'd much rather have one of those as opposed to a stand. Just one more thing to get in the way in the basement.:( I was hoping they would be cheaper than a stand. Oh well, I'll keep looking.

Most stands are foldable and don't take up much space. Mine even has a nice carry bag for storage and transport.

I really like my full-size stand. Get one that will hold even a heavy bike well. You don't want the bike and stand falling over.

That's really cheap if it's any good at all! I went to the site but couldn't get anywhere. Said it was down due to maintenance. Have you been on it lately?

You could build something, like I did!! Just Kidding, Mine takes up tone of room, and is totally NOT foldable. But sure was fun to build! BTW, Biketoolsetc.com is great!! i ordered a crank puller for them and got it right one time. The have an awesome cataloge too.

if your lbs knows you well, then go ask them if they have any old ones, thats what I did atleast!

I guess Im a cheapo...lol. Ive got 2 small pulleys screwed into a beam in my basement, and with clothesline I pull my bikes up into the air, and tie them off to a boat tieoff mounted on a beam a few feet away. I can take them as high as I want so I dont have to bend over to work on them. I can pedal it by hand, changing gears and look right at my derailler while its shifting when adjusting my shifter. Ive got sliploops on the ends of the clotheslines, and slip one over the seat to the seatpost, and the other over the handlebars to the neckpost. By pulling both ropes simultaneously I can raise and lower the bike easily and safely to any desired height or angle I prefer, depending on what area of the bike I will be working on. This also leaves my workbench open for tools and working on parts without the bike being in my way. And I dont think I spent more than $5 at the local hardware store. Just thought Id share my cheapo invention with the group..........Pix

Great idea! And I have seen that method used in some bike shops here as well. I tried it, but I found that the bike moves around too much for my taste, especially when pedalling and shifting. I like the more solid feel of a stand. OTOH, mine cost me a little more than $5. :(

Not having a garage or basement I normally work in the yard but as it was both cold and dark Sunday afternoon my wife let me use the dining room to replace my rear brake pads, I'm not sure whether she would let me put hooks in the ceiling :(

By the way... do people who work in bike shops have more than two arms - I found setting up the brakes incredibly fiddly....

That's why Park Tools makes tools called Third Hand Tool and Fourth Hand Tool. Seriously.

I've got a park model just like the first one you posted. I haven't seen them on the market for a couple years now though.

One thing to take note of is the only option you have with the bench stand will be your seat post if you have thin walled oversized tubing. You could destroy a Cannondale in seconds if you weren't smart about it.
