Sounds good. When I last rode through there I had to get on the west bound I-70 at the Chamonix on-ramp and get off again at the Hwy 24 exit. I've ridden to Vail a couple of times when I lived in the foothills west of Denver. You have a nice MUP over Vail Pass except for that eternal wet spot just before you pass under I-70 when East-bound.

My wife and I moved back to Denver a couple of years ago from Park City where we lived for 4 years.
We actually got tired of the snow and mountain town living, sometimes it was like living in a dream, other times, you just got tired of the cold, the tourists, shoveling snow, and the transient population. Our kids were coming up to school age and we had to make the choice if we really wanted to live there for the long haul. We choose the cheaper standard of living and the big city amenities while still living in small town (Golden) that you see people you know at the parks, out shopping, etc. Skiing is more of a pain but I can bike outside all year round down here.

hopefully you are making your way up to Eldora and avoiding those crushing I70 hordes. Come join us next year for Nighthawks - 6k (3-4 laps) with temps in single digits and those famous Eldora winds!! Somehow its actually fun, once you finish that is.

Thanks for the responses.
I hope to make a ride out to Glenwood Springs a regular thing for me. I haven't done it yet though. When winter hits, I hope that snowshoeing, XC skiing and a $500 all mountain season pass will be enough to keep us busy.
Right now I'm actually sitting in Utah with my laptop, as all of our belongings have been boxed up for shipping. I'll head for our new town after the weekend's holiday traffic has died off.
BV, I hear ya with regards to life in a resort town. Some of the issues you hit upon are what helped us to decide against living directly in Vail, Avon or Edwards. Eagle has the right feel for us and it seems just far enough away from the hip ski town crowds. Over the last couple of months I've spent a lot of time walking around in these places. It will be interesting to find out what we think of the place in a year's time. That said, we lived at elevation in Utah's snow country (base of Powder Mountain) for five years and the snow never got old. However the long drive to my office did.

Last time I tried to go skiing up at Eldora it was was coming down, well, not actually down, but horizontal in the parking lot. We waited til our heartrates came down after nearly having a head on with an SUV who decided splitting the highway down the middle was a better idea than staying in their own lane near the lake up there.
Loveland is actually quicker for us from Golden so we do any of our day trips up there. Cross sounds like fun, until you mentioned that single digits and winds part : ) Alass, with two little ones, my hobbies must remain limited until they can join me on excursions.
We have access to a family house up in Dillon so we get to avoid the hordes most of the time by coming up Fridays and getting an early start and exit on Sundays or just staying over til Monday mornings.

Look at the Courage Classic in July 3 days 150 miles lots of mountains. I am south of Glenwood Springs about 20 miles and really enjoy the Glenwood to Edwards ride - 50 miles each way. There is a happening bike scene in Eagle check your local shop. There was a 3 race cross series this spring that was a blast. Welcome to the central rockies there is great riding - road and mountain - everywhere you look :thumb:
