I feel for ya, my wife's exactly the same. I found a co-worker of hers that is a road rider, and she's slowly bringing her along that it's not Beirut out there. Haven't convinced her yet, but we're close. We even have a route and start time (early Sunday AM) picked out, so soon.....
Any bike clubs out there that have female rides? Maybe she'd be more comfortable going that route at first. Sometimes wives will listen to other wives before husbands. Shocking, I know.

You might consider a road riding class. The League of American Bicyclists (http://www.bikeleague.org/) have classes all over. You could do a search and find one near you.

Along with the downright excellent suggestions above, you might get your wife to ride in very low traffic areas with her taking the lead and you following along behind promising to carefully watch your mirror. Frightened riders often have an exaggerated estimation of the risks of being hit from behind.

OK soo here is my plan. We went for a ride today her speed and endurence need improvment. so 3 more weekend rides in the park loops with some weeknegith rides to cooffee shops this is ona road with like traiffic and a slow limit.

in a month get her to go on a 15 mile group ride with a local club.

Tell her your girlfriends ride the roads with you with no problem, although you might get your bike bent around your neck!

update......

she went on her first road ride. 1st haldf was great mostly downhill...

second half we where on a narrow brideg with a 18wheeler.....that passed us with room to spare but a couple of kids in a car following yelled at my wife who was ahead of me.....

she ahd my daughter in a trailer and my son was on a TAB on my bike. i sprinted to have a 'discussion' with the kids in the car but my wife stopped me.

luckily she isnt ready to give up yet.

i think when we are with the group rides it will be better hopefully.
