That is a shame but in the thing it says that "they CUT through two locks" This leads me to believe that she had some cheapo cable lock that was incredibly easy to cut through with standard bolt cutters. If this is the case, I dont understand why people have things that are so important to them secured with something so cheap. Spending 10 extra to get a D lock has made me feel so much more secure locking my Fuji up around campus

it was mere speculation bro. I see nice bikes locked up all over the place with cheap twine-like cables simply because people say its easier to carry around a coil cable. Id rather be "troubled" by carrying a D lock and have my bike than convenienced by comfort and without a bike. once again, it was mere speculation

I think it's easier to carry a U lock in my belt than to unlock a cable lock from my bike, uncoil it, recoil it, relock it, and do that every time.

The u-lock is out-unlock-lock-gone.

hey, it was my bike... and yeah i was dumb to have two braided cable locks.. but it was on the side of an art gallery with security and inbetween other bikes.... i thought that would be enough.. but i shoulda known my friends vivalo was stolen with a kryptonite lock on it a few weeks ago.

i had only had the bike 6 days.. so i hadn't invested in a d (we call them U) lock yet.. so yes i was dumb but at the same time.. it doesn't sound like any lock is good enough sometimes.
i loved the bike we had been working on it for three months.. and i cried telling Ron (who built it for/with me).

i went up to security and was like someone stole my bike.. and they said they hadn't been watching it.. and i asked them what kind of security are you? ah well.... i would sleep tight if i found it... just been moping around since.

just thought i should share this little part.. when i sent it to fixed gear gallery i was still blindly upset and left out the more human stuff. that bike had alot of heart in it.

I know she really cared for this bike and put alot of time and effort into it. I really hope it turns up, its such a shame.

ps. yeah the paint was a little wrinkled on the fork, but the rest was pristine.

last one.. thanks everyone, i was walking down commonwealth after it happened with two friends.. loosing my wits when the guys who run the hub bike shop down here showed up and like scooped me up into hugs... and made the world seem better.. Andres (who lost his vivalo only hours after it was complete) drew pictures of our bikes riding next to each other joking.

just a nice reminder of how amazing bike communities can be.

I was biking in detroit just the other day! Bummer. I'll keep an eye out for it tomorrow. If I see it i'll get my u-lock justice on. Hope you get it back.

The moment i started rocking an eye-catching $$$ bike, i bought a chain for my shortie ulock.

I figured the two go hand in hand. Some people look at it as a burden to carry around a chain AND a ulock, i look at it as knowing that the only way a person is going to steal my bike is going to have to put in alot of effort.

If it's one thing that bothers me it is a thief, no exceptions. Sorry about your bike and I hope you do recover it. Sometime I think our society is to free because obviously others think they can take what isn't theirs. Peoples belongings would not end up stolen if we started taking fingers from the thieves. Start with a pinky and work your away across the hand. If they don't get the idea that stealing is wrong after the first amputation I would be surprised.

good luck getting your bike back! some of my friends have had some incredible recovery stories, so don't give up hope!

ps- when you do get it back please get some form of foot retention or a brake, seriously.

Times were tougher then. Stealing a loaf of bread that would help keep you and your family alive might be worth a hand. Stealing a TV for crack probably isn't (or maybe it is, I don't know I'm not a crack head)

I support taking a finger from some crack head, or those who just wish to steal for the fun of it. Lessons need to be learned and the way the system is now it just doesn't work. Who freaking cares about midieval times(DeadForkingLast)? That's the past, this is the present.
