I went out to Grand Junction, Colorado for a week to ride with my brother and offer some support for a friend who was seriously injured in a solo bicycle accident. He had organized a fundraiser ride from Fruita to Moab for this woman friend, a former Cat 1 racer, and we had about 26 riders for the event. This was a great ride across the desert of Western Colorado and Eastern Utah. Our route took us from Fruita on a side road then onto I 70 for about 30 miles to the river road at Cisco and then finally down Utah 128 along the Colorado River through Professor Valley.
Many riders came from out of town with a large group from Seattle in attendance. I have to say that I have never ridden with so many excellent women riders, many former Cat 1 racers themselves. These were some fit women many of whom are in their early 50s. They could ride!
We met at the CitiMarket in Fruita and started out at a brisk pace into a stiff headwind.

I started the ride tucked in behind some very strong women riders. :)

Riding out on I 70 as the women pull me along towards Utah.

I broke away with this guy and put a good 5 min on the field to the Dewey Bridge rest stop.
