I have this old bike im fixing up, needed a new chain so I went out and bought a pretty cheap one. Anyway to shorten the chain without buying any special tools?

If you have a small vice, a hammer, and a pin punch you might be able to shorten the chain. It would, however, be way easier to just buy a $10 chain tool and do it right.
