I just got into fixie riding and want to do it for my commute. Once I get to work, I have to look halfway civilized. I'm using toe clips and don't particularly want to change that. Any recommendations for shoes that work well for fixie riding AND are comfortable to wear all day AND don't look like something my teenage son would wear?

Yeah, I'm considering leaving shoes at work - wearing winter boots all day sucks too, even if they look good.

Still, I'd like to have some biking shoes that I can also walk around in when not-at-work.

Shimano MT21 (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=600084&subcategory=60001041&brand=&sku=22649&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=Shop%20by%20Subcat%3A%20Mountain%20Shoes) and clipless pedals du jour.

I have a similar model and have comfortably worn them for 12 hour shifts on the hospital floor, but not for more than one day. I imagine that if you aren't running around on concrete floors 12 hours a day that they would be comforable every day.

For the last 7 months I was riding in Steve Madden shoes. I think they pass the work attire threshold... way more than checkered slip-on vans!

I believe that the OP wants to retain the toe clips. But these shoes are nice, though. I have a similar pair that I wear when biking around town and doing errands.

Leather slip on Vans are fine for work if you can get away with it... I just tell people they're 'Italian'.

onisake tigers look pretty classy, otherwise, throw a pair of kicks in a bag and leave em in the office. The shoes I ride in always stink pretty bad anyways, but right now thats every pair of shoes I own.

I have the off white creamish ones. They get dirty fast, but I love those shoes so much.

All the more reason to wear them, then.

I love them, except for the fact that my feet get awfully hot and sweaty in them.

My favourite shoe for clips were always the Adidas Stan Smith tennis shoe which has been reintroduced after first being sold back in '77... they run $60.00 - 160.00 but considering they will last forever they're not a bad deal. They also come in black which hides scuffs really well.

My new shoes are also making me pretty happy... I scored some nice leather Uvex shoes with a toe cap which makes them perfect for those days I am using clips. They are rugged and very breathable although not the kind of shoe I would want to stand in all day.

I believe that the OP wants to retain the toe clips. Clipless pedals aside, they are still a stiff-soled, durable shoe, narrow enough to easily slide in and out of toe-clips, and mainstream enough to not offend at work.

YMMV.
