I may have a few days to bike around Humboldt county. I am not a huge hill climber (I can, but it isnt fun for me) I had a chance to bike Old Arcata Rd the other day and loved it. Any good 20-40 mile rides in the area that one could enjoy as a day tripper?

1) McKinleyville ----> Patrick's Point out & back 34 mi.
Start @ Roger's Market (School Road), head north on Hammond Trail to Clam Beach Road. Get on 101 for 1 mi. @ Little River State Beach, get off at Moonstone. Scenic Dr. north past Camel Rock, through Trinidad, north to Patrick's Point. Not much climbing (no real "climbs") but lots of rollers. Virtually no traffic and almost entirely along the coast.

Arcata/Blue Lake/Mckinleyville/Arcata- A nice, quiet loop maybe 30 miles. Take West End road out of Arcata and head east for 9 miles, take a left on Hatchery Rd. Stop at the river, have a snack, watch the fish go by. Continue on into Blue Lake, get a water refill at Perigot Park on RailRoad ave. Or stock up at the gas station on Blue Lake Blvd. or the one at the casino. Head west on Blue Lake Blvd. it turns into Glendale Drive, go right on Essex then hop onto HWY 299 for about 1.5 miles, jump off at North Bank Rd.Continue west to the 101/Central Ave juncture. Head up Central go left on Hiller. Refill water at Hiller park, then hop the Hammond trail (Fischer RD.)south into the Arcata Bottom(wave to a cow, they're friendly)Fischer crosses the Mad and becomes Mad River Rd. Follow it south and take a left on Miller, a right on Heindon, a left on Janes. Cross over 101 andd keep going east till you hit West End rd. again.
Mostly flat, a few bumps, but nothing to fear. Lots of variations available if you want a longer day of it.
