i've seen more than one bike with bright orange trainer tires on an orange deep v or something and i'm wondering - is that just to look cool, or are people actually riding those in the street? or is someone making a new all-orange tire?
They are using a trainer-only tire on the street. You are correct.

What's the difference between trainer tires and ordinary ones? Tread pattern, rubber composition, what?

several brands make all orange tires. vredestein fortezza tricomps come to mind, but there are others.

the trainers that most people are talking about are the Continentals. they don't have tread per se, but the ones I have seen have a couple small ridges.
the rubber is harder than their normal tires. I dont know about how they wear, but I imagine the traction can't be too good.
especially because they have a big warning on the packaging warning not to use them on the street

Continental makes orange road tires too and gold and bronze.
