I have no idea.

If you had $1500 to burn (say, from the economic stimulus plan or whatever) and were limited to just the choices I'm giving you, what would you do?

Helpful background information: 1. My 30th aniversary is this weekend 2. We can't go anywhere because my bro-in-law is coming into town 3. Even if we could, escaping from our maleeshka (new 12 y/o daughter) would be very tricky. 4. I've really not been a very good boy lately. "All you ever think about is riding your bike", etc.

You have a new 12 year old daughter???? Did I miss that thread? Direct me!

I say, give all the money to your wife and let her decide.

Edit: Oh, sorry. the poll JUST showed up. I say a new imac.

If I had $1500 I'd buy a tank of gas.

Could someone please explain...what is an I-mac?:50:

He wouldn't buy a boat (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/20/business/20repo.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin).

Louis,

Do you remember an old Simon and Garfunkle song, "The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine?" Well, that's what an I-mac is.

Went to the Apple store last week with wifey with the idea of maybe buying one. We walked out of there with two.

Tom Bombadil

I think he was asking what an "I-mac" is, not what an "iMac" is.

I voted I Mac as the daughter and better half can enjoy it while you're riding.

Yeah, I remember that song...hmmm...that 'splains it. :)

When I left the high tech world in '94, I REALLY left the high tech world. :crash: It's like I've been living in a cave, and lovin' it.

Now back to the original question. I think P-Cad would sell hot I-Macs on ebay.

I think if he didn't just get one, he would get one of these.

What a great song off of Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme.

EDIT: Spinning the iPod to that album while I work.

Spending - nice old cheap tandem. Best times of my life with daughter Lucy, age 12, 13, 14, and 15. She came to visit last month, age 19. "What do you want to do?" "Dad, can we go out on the tandem?"

I say buy new tires for your bike, and then try to wear them out! - If you are thinking about riding your bike rather than riding your bike, something is wrong........

If you're going to use the quote, at least use it correctly.
Probably too much to ask of your obviously addled, sclerotic, middle-aged brain.

The quote is: "Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise"

Hm. Come to think of it, that's very apropo for the Road Forum, now, isn't it?
SKT likes that.

I guess so. No one recognized the quotation - it's been attributed to Louis Armstrong, answering the silly question "what is jazz?"

PCad's like the rest of us. If he's regular, it's because of his Metamucil usage. Although I'm a Miralax man, myself.

.....4. I've really not been a very good boy lately. "All you ever think about is riding your bike", etc.

If there's even a shred of your Sense of Self Preservation left it sure sounds like it should be the appliances or the rocker if you know what's good for you.

Besides, getting either of those two options will bring with it enough points that you can go riding some more on your old beater bike..... :D

My wife confiscates any and all checks (even $5 ones). That's why my bike budget comes from ebay sales (PayPal) and folding cash from flipping bikes on Craigslist.
I listed washer / dryer because we just got a set of front loaders for about $2k after discounts. They are sure quiet and use less water. My Garmin 305 survied a wash!

Y'know, I have had a Whirlpool Duet set for about 8 years and when I got my place in KS I got inexpensive top loaders, also Whirlpool.

I cannot rave enough about the front loaders compared to the top loaders. Not only do you use very little water, but they get the clothes really, really clean with no wear on the fabric! And the dryer time is about 1/3 of the frontloader. When I bought the front loaders, they had some fabric swatches in a chart on the wall showing fabric after being washed 30 times in different machines. the frontloader fabric looked like new, while the one on the bottom of the chart was very worn and faded.

I didn't really believe it until I started washing my own clothes. Suddenly, nothing was looking old and ratty! When I started washing them in the kansas top loader, they got destroyed. I got snags in my bike clothes, I got frays and holes in my jeans where the seams were. And I've only been down here 2 months. Plus, nothing gets clean.

I really didn't realize there was such a huge difference.

$1500 won't buy a halfway pcad-level mountain bike! Also, iMacs are for wussy, and if he tried to rock his grandkids he would drope them. So I guess that leaves the washing machine. After all, it stinks to get old.

I've had many, many macs since 1986. I have never had any desire to get a laptop. Until I did. They're powerful enough for most things now, and you can hook an external monitor to it with a wireless keyboard and a wacom tablet and you're fully portable. You can sit in front of the TV or settle in for some long work hours at a desk with the external monitor.
