Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Anyone else have this happen with their courier bag?

With my bag, if the main compartment is completely empty, it feels bad on my back. There is no weight on the strap, and it moves around everywhere.

Is this happening to you?

It actually feels nicer on my back due to lack of weight. Less awkward too.
Try tightening the strap?

The strap is tightened fully. Is it normal to have a courier bag 26 inches across? [chrome metropolis]

I tend to wear my bag as tight as it will go, diagonal across my back.

Unloaded, it kind of wraps around my body.

Weird.
I have the citizen and it wraps around my body when it's empty.
I don't find that uncomfortable really.
I dunno what to tell you.

I don't know, I just like having some weight in it to push the strap down.

my bags definately need to be loaded with something to sit correctly... unless i strap it down real tight, in which case it's just weird.

i'll usually throw a sketchbook in there if I have nothing.

Like riding an unloaded touring bike just does not feel right.

solution = put some stuff in it!

i like riding with a fairly full bag, it stays on my back better

i keep enough tools in my bag at all times that it weighs a ton always, so i don't really have that problem.

Exactly! I almost always have my sketchbook in there. I also sometimes stick a extra sweater inside in case it rains or just for protecting my back against textbooks.

ADDED: I just have my Pedros ICM multitool [has almost everything except a wrench and a pump!]

my reload courier feels like this when it's empty but that's because I'm skinny and can almost completely fit inside of it. my civilian doesn't have this issue at all.

Force of habit. If I go biking, I put on my courier bag.

Plus it has stuff like my wallet, phone, keys, lock, camera, bus tickets, bike tool, ect.

Same here. The Timbuk2 is annoying as hell when it's empty. The kemmer bag wraps around to the point of me not even noticing it.

I pick up a 20lb+ load of veggies every week with a large prototype TB2 bag, no cross strap possible.
Heading out to the pick up empty over large humps it can get air on my shoulder and lift off of it and I have to shove/pull it back. On the way home it stays put.

My other mess bag has a cross strap and stays put empty too.

Front bucket! but actually...I figure you should always put your wallet, phone, keys, some change, buss tickets, tools, pump (or air), wrench, some food, and some water...and a rain jacket or sweater if your anywhere near that kind of weather. and all that should keep your bag in place and comfortable (rain jacket or sweater do it the best)...all that should still leave room for books and laptops, or sketch book and supplies, or packages, or groceries. Try that and see how it works...

i feel ya, i had the un-weighted issue with my manhattan portage when i first rode with it, so now i just leave some **** in there at all times to take up room and give the bag some shape so it sits well on my back. i have some tools, a wrench, a tube, small nalgene, and a packable raincoat. besides, why ride with a bag if your going to carry NOTHING. as cool as it may look, bags have a purpose and if i were to carry nothing id ride bagless and avoid the inevitable back sweats.

Beer? In cans of course. In case of a crash. Nothing like a beer to make your hurts seem not so bad.

back sweat is the reason i changed to wearing an REI waistbag. it fits everything i need and i can't even feel it. i'll keep my chrome for when i need it, though.
