I posted this earlier today in Bicycle Mechanics, and have got no answer. Worse yet, I don't understand why it sits at an OK distance from the centerline on modern bikes:
The bike is an old CroMoly Nishiki Colorado (21", 1988ish), I guess that the Deore octalink crankset I bought new is never going to work, even with the shorter BB it sits waaaaay far away from the centerline of the bike. I can put my whole index finger between the inner ring and the chainstay. Has anyone got a surefire fix, I really don't want to buy another crankset that won't work. It is a 68mm English BB shell, I am trying to run a modern 9 speed MTB drivetrain, LX rear hub... Thanks in advance
