Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Ugh, I freakin' HATE thieves! (my bike was stolen in PDX)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My grocery getter craptastic single speed was stolen last night.
This is the second bike I have had stolen, both of them were locked up in my yard!
If anyone in the PDX area sees my bike, please for the love of god PM me or post here, it was a piece of crap but I liked it a lot.
It's pretty hard to miss, wooden chainguard, ugly black and white paint job, Ruffian grips, Planet Bike fenders, chrome rack (has a red coca-cola crate bungeed to it but that may have been taken off already), full cassette on rear even though it's setup as a SS, welds are smoothed out with bondo.

Second bike stolen?
Maybe you should invest less money in wooden chainring covers and more into decent locks.
Or, if youre really a cop, stand gaurd and shoot them.
Good luck getting the bike back.
Oh, and '67 beetle?

Yep, second bike...
Wood chainring guards are free, can't spend much less than that.

Yep '67, good call... I need to get that thing registered so I can get her back on the road!

Sorry to hear. I HATE thieves. My old bike was stolen a few weeks ago on the campus I live at.
Bike thieves can suck it easy.

Cool. I own a '66 beetle, and just picked up a '63 a few weeks ago.
Did you happen to record the serial number of either of your bikes?

The last bike I had stolen was several years ago, down in Santa Cruz Ca. I had recorded the serial, submitted a police report, and searched craigslist. It never turned up.
I have the serial for this most recent bike as well, though during a quick search this morning before work I couldn't find it, but it should turn up, and I'll be filing a police report then.
As far as the VW's go, I'd LOVE an old '63 but I don't think my fiance would be too pleased with another car, along with the 5 bikes :/

What kind of lock and what exactly was it locked to? Was it stolen overnight?

I don't remember what the brand of lock was, the logo has long since worn off.
It was a cable lock (very thick cable lock, not one of thos tiny ones) and it was locked to the front bumper of the VW in the lower picture.
Yeah stolen overnight, right on the other side of the window I was sleeping next to :/.

Don't lock bikes overnight unless you absolutely have to, and don't ever lock up with cable locks... U locks always, and you won't have to worry about thieves. Not trying to be a downer, just offering some constructive criticism.

I already have 3 bikes inside, 680 sq feet and 3 bikes sucks...
About the locking up, yeah I realize I coulda done better, but honestly, would YOU have thought someone would have stolen THAT bike???
Luckily they didn't touch the Kona frame sitting next to it, that was unlocked

Sorry to hear about your loss man, for what it's worth I'll keep an eye out for it. Bike thieves are low, which is why it doesn't matter if your bike is a pile. Welcome to Portland man, meth is a helluva drug, and a meth head can chew through a cable lock in 15 minutes.

lol meth heads dont have teeth...they can gnaw through it in 15 minutes with their gums and jaw bones.

Are you sure they didn't just save you the trouble and throw it in the garbage?

Well, no. I liked that bike quite a bit. YOU may not like it, but does that really matter?
