Hello,
I am a former road racer (in my late teens, early 20s) and have not been on a bike with any regularity for many years. Somehow I let kids and career get in the way.
DH bought me a hybrid bike about 10 years ago to replace my racing bike, but it never really fit properly and I have never enjoyed it, though I have ridden it from time to time.
I finally discovered the world of "comfort" bikes and after a bunch of test riding and research I purchased a Specialized Expedition Sport, and could not be happier. I got the step-through frame. Now I find myself adding on kickstands, fenders, racks, lights, etc., and this is blowing my mind, because these are all of the items that I would formally strip off my racing bike during customization, before I built my bike from the frame up.
I have a giant SUV that I want to drive as little as possible, and am really enjoying this bike to get me to the store and to visit friends, etc. It is amazingly comfortable, as I find bending over to be uncomfortable now. DH has rediscovered biking as well, and he has been bike packing already, which has inspired me. We are looking into this as a new hobby, and since the kids are now 7 and 15 they can join us. We did this about four years ago and pulled the twins on a trailer, but now they can ride their own bikes. The trailer will now be used to haul gear.
I'll be getting recommendations in the future on how to make these trips more enjoyable, and am very impressed with this forum as a resource to bikers of every description. There is something for everyone here. :)
