I cant find anything on the bike itself as to where it was made... leads me to think I paid too much for a chinese product.

It was most likely made in Taiwan or China.

Not that there's anything wrong with Taiwan bikes, I (not really) paid 2k for my Taiwan bike.

very few frames are made in the US these days. Some obviously are, but typically they are fairly high end. It is just too cheap to make them overseas. And the quality can be very very high. Mike from Bikesdirect has admitted that his nicer alum road frames (columbus zonal tubing) cost him about $35 to make. You cannot touch that in the states.
Bd.com uses Taiwan most if not all the time. I think many of the larger OEM's use Taiwan. I think some lower end stuff if coming out of China. All the wal-mart type bikes are China.

My 07 Gary Fisher was made in China. I was kind of dissapointed to find the sticker on the front of the frame however the quality still appears very good. Just because its made in China doesn't mean the quality control isn't American.

My Trek 4500 has a "made in China" sticker on it...
