So I am awaiting the delivery of my new bottom brackets for the tandem today.
According to UPS, they came @ 7:15 (I was home) and left the box at the front door.
Around a similar time a kid came to my door from the local high school (they do this periodically) and asks us to sign up for something that will help him pay for college.
I check tracking around 8:15 at it said it was delivered (left at front door) at 7:15 PM.... WTF
The kid didn't seem like the thief type... but you never know. I grabbed my escrima stick and jumped in my car, going to find that kid and question him. But, he wasn't around anymore.
MAYBE the box was delivered to the wrong location, but something tells me it was stolen.
I live in a pretty nice neighborhood, where crime rarely ever occurs.
I am really pissed right now. I need that stuff for this weekend, I already started taking the bike apart.

Oh, man, sorry to hear that. I'd be pissed off too. What a scam.

The point is, you didn't receive it. They are supposed to put it in a very discreet place. What if you were gone for a day or two? It would sit fully exposed.
I'd call and say you didn't get it, that the tracking shows it arrived but you did not get it.
Perhaps it wasn't the kid but maybe a person who follows around UPS trucks. I've heard kids joke about doing that....
Hopefully it's insured. Good luck and keep us posted.

Man, that sucks. Thieves suck. Bad, bad, bad karma on them.
Curious at best, why didn't they get a signature? I know sometimes they don't require them but if you were home, surely that takes any liability off the UPS driver if you sign for it.
That sux dude, hopefully it was just a snafu in the system
That sucks :(
But, I would check with UPS where exactly they left the package. UPS is an evil one here where I live: they have tendency of leaving packages god knows where. Most of the packages were found within next couple days, but I try to avoid using UPS as much as I can.

Bummer. Are you sure the package isn't behind the bushes or under a chair or something? Whenever we get a package from UPS, they tend to ring the bell before they leave it behind the bushes.
Definitely make a claim to UPS.

First thing I did was call UPS.
We'll see what happens tomorrow. If they don't find it tomorrow, then they damn well better pay the vendor to send me new ones *tomorrow*
I need them by the end of the week!
Thing I don't understand is that I *was home*. WTF man, I have a door bell... Ring it.
Must have been a new UPS guy. I know the usual guy, and he rings the bell and/or knocks.

My dad showed me a few things when I was younger, he knows it. No formal practice for me. I just kept a couple of sticks to mess around with.

Marco, I have this problem all the time, ups, fed ex, dhl...It's vaction time so the new guys think they're being clever. The regulars know what they can, and can't do. I'm actually going through the same problem with one of my tenants right now. They dropped stuff at my door thinking the manager will take care of it! Just stupid! I hope you get them back or can order them again.

Doubt it was the kid, the ones going around selling things aren't really the type. It's a pain to go door-to-door, last thing I'd think he'd want to do is cause trouble. UPS is great at losing things and mis-delivering them.
Just got a UPS package on my doorstep. Address 1648 apt#1226. They delivered to me at 1644 apt#1126. Not the right building, not the right apt. There was a 1126 written in red sharpie on one side of the box, 1226 on another side, and 8445 somewhere else. WTF.

Not so. Common scam: kid knocks on door - you answer, they have lame story to tell you, but no documentation. You don't answer, you're not home - that's when they bust in and get some loot.

Is not requiring a signature an option for the drivers now? I would think it is big liability for UPS with people stealing packages, others claiming not receiving packages, and drivers not delivering the packages. I always have things delivers to my work so it is a non issue for me.

I f'ing hate UPS.. My wife knows this..everytime I see a UPS store, truck, delivery person, commercial, article mentioning them, etc...I can't help but automatically mutter "F***ing UPS"... I don't see how they can be so callous and irresponsible.
Story 1: I order golf clubs online for my wife. I have them EXPRESS ship it to my mom's restaurant because someone is ALWAYS there during business hours and I didn't think my work's Material Mgmt wouldn't look kindly on me shipping a set of golf clubs to work. So I keep checking online with the tracking to see when they swing by so I can get it out of the way and midafternoon around 3:30 the tracker tells me missed delivery. I was like WTF? I go down to the restaurant which is across the street from my office and my mom was like, "Yeah I saw the truck parked across the street." I asked if the guy came over or left that cursed little yellow tag for redelivery and she was like, "no..he was just sitting there for like 10 minutes then drove off" Now I'm mad. WTF? If I pay you to deliver something, you better get your brown short wearing ***** out of your brown truck and walk over and knock on my door before typing in your brown tablet no one is there. I call the customer service number and they look it up and say the driver "made an attempt" and will have to be rescheduled tomorrow and I tell them BULLSH!T! My mom watched your driver out her window and never once did he walk his ***** over to "make an attempt at delivery". CS was like well we can have him bring it back tomorrow. This being Friday it defeated the whole purpose since we were going on an outing for the weekend. So it won't be until Monday for redelivery. Reluctantly I agree since my plans are already blown. Monday rolls around and back to the tracker. And midafternoon.."Mom, you see the UPS guy?" Mom goes nooooo... Now I'm livid. :troll: I have a screamfest over the phone with CS and THEN they offer that I can drive down to the Hub and pick it up later today. I was like what?!??! I pay you to deliver my package and I have to GO GET IT? So CS goes..orrr..we can redeliver it on Tuesday. Keep in mind after 3 missed deliveries, they return the package BACK to the sender. I sure as hell was not gonna let that happen. What time I asked and they say the truck should be back by 4:30pm. I get there at 5. The Hub counterperson tells me this driver won't be back until 9:30. WTF kinda business are you running!?! I throw a fit and ask for their supervisor and she tells me there's nothing she can do but wait herself. I come back at 9:30. The MFer doesn't roll in until almost 10 (he better not be getting OT for this inept job performance). I grab my package and cheery b.i. MFer goes someone sure is cranky at which I let loose a string of profanity that leaves him speechless as I storm out. I followed that with a "nice" letter to Corporate.
Story 2:
I order some nice Corcoran Jumpboots for a couple of weekends from now more than enough time for ground delivery. The company doesn't process the order until the Friday before the weekend I need them even though they already took my money a week prior. Tracking tells me it was received at the Hub on Thursday morning around 3am for sorting. Friday morning it gets put on a truck for delivery. Okay..this time I ship it to work..they get their deliveries at 9:30am. More than enough time should anything go wrong. And sure enough, wrong it did go. I go down to Mat.Mgmt at 11..uhhh..no package for you. In my head goes are you f'ing kidding me...again!!??! I call CS again. Where's my package? It's on a truck for delivery. Well the delivery should've already been here. Let me look into this some more. Oh..it's on another truck. In San Leandro. Huh? My shipping address is in Oakland. Are they going to deliver it today? No, it has to come back to the Hub to get rerouted. (That means no boots for me until Monday) Why is it on the wrong truck? Why can't that driver just drop it off where it's supposed to go? The driver has a predetermined route sir. I can only reroute the delivery for the next day. Well I don't want you to reroute the delivery. I just want you to make the initial delivery! I can offer you the option of picking it up at the Hub tonight when the driver returns. (Oh no she didn't...) What is the Hub's local number...I need a supervisor? I call the Hub and have 3 more calls back and forth about where my pacakage is and finally another "supervisor" goes to get it out of the wrong truck to bring it back to the Hub. I still have to go pick it up myself after work so I can make it up to the Sierras Friday night. And on the label, clear as day in big ***** 36pt font, states delivery address is OAKLAND.
Like I said. I F'ing hate U Piece of Sh!t. I don't think it was the kid USPSPro..UPS blows...

The Merry Sales Co. in SSF was the IRD distributor used.
They were very nice about it, and are shipping out a new order for me today. I had it shipped to my work this time. They will deal with UPS and the claim/tracer stuff.
I think I will have anything that can fit in my backpack shipped to work from now on.

This is why I have all my personal stuff delivered to work (with a receiving department).

NeCro,
I feel your pain. I would put UPS well behind USPS, FedEx, and DHL, in that order.
USPS because they come to your house everyday AND Saturday.
FedEx because they're very flexible. I once needed a package (jerseys in fact) that was out for delivery but couldn't be home to receive it. I called their dispatch who then gave me the driver's cell #. I called the driver and met him on his route and picked up the package :thumb:.
DHL because even though they aren't the best, they do try.
UPS is inflexible and doesn't put the customer first. They're the biggest so they don't care. I've had to do the 9:30 PM pickup as well after they claimed to attempt delivery when I was at home. (And I never saw a UPS truck parked outside either.)

Being the all-knowing, all-seeing type, I foresee you will end up with 2 sets of bottom brackets. The ones they lied about delivering today and will deliver tomorrow, and the "replacement" sets.

Another reason to buy local.

True, but the business hours aren't helping me.
Plus..
The LBS for me (within reasonable riding distance) is Cyclepath in San Mateo. Which wouldn't be my first choice for these types of purchases. There is Chain Reaction in RWC, which I like as a store, however they are shills for Trek/Bontrager/Shimano thus not dealing the parts I am looking for.
I am trying to drive as little as possible. I ride my bike to work/stores/etc... If it means having the choice between (A) ordering from a US company through a US distributor, or (B) driving several miles to an LBS. I will probably just order it.
For specialty items, I frequently use the LBS. I ordered many parts for my tandem from an awesome LBS, Crank-2 in Pleasanton, including: Wheelset, Crankset, RD, Skewers, brake boosters, etc..
Funny thing is the IRD distributor is in SSF. I offered to pick them up, but they don't offer pickup, only shipping.

You can pick up from Merry Sales if you're a bike shop or authorized reseller.
The Bike Route used to be right down the street (~1 mile) from them and they
would go pick stuff up all the time.

Wow !!!! I thought that people thought we (USPS) were bad. AT least my UPS driver here rings the bell before he runs off. I've had people call up and claim I didn't knock when they were home, and I've had people ask me not to knock so hard that the front of the house shakes.;)

The local FedEx guy does not like me any more. I called his supervisor the third time he left a "delivery attempted" note WITHOUT knocking. My workroom is right next to the front door. On two of those occasions I SAW the truck driving away! I called the local depot and gave them what for - I had ordered some jewellery supplies that I needed right away for a custom order; I had paid for the expedited service; and this knothead does not even *try* to deliver it properly? Oh hell no. And they do the same thing as UPS, after 3 tries they send it back. I made my feelings clear!
I got a nice note from FedEx and a box of chocolates as an apology.
So I am awaiting the delivery of my new bottom brackets for the tandem today.

I would expect this sort of vitriol from "uspspro."
You are obviously prejudiced against the quality shipping firm of UPS. How much is the US Postal Service paying you to troll these forums???
:D
I found that USPS is more reliable than FedEx/UPS/DHL for me. In most cases I can wait for couple-three days and this is how fast I get stuff using USPS (comparing to 5-6 days when using courier service).
