This morning:
Temp 7C
Wind 25km/h out of the North
Forecast: rain
Got dressed for a cold weather ride, got all ready, flat tire....
Fixed the flat, canceled the ride, I knew that the patron saint of cyclists and the weather gods don't like me :(
Tomorrow is supposed to be nice and sunny, warmer with only the wind to deal with, last ride was Saturday, the last 10 days, the weather has stunk big time. Looking at the forecast, it's getting batter from here on it, of course Monday my vacation ends, I was hoping to get in about 400km on my holidays, I'll be lucky to break 150

I did the same yesterday. I fought it for 30 minutes, but I really didn't feel like it and I just turned back and even chose a quicker route to get home. Today, I'm just going for a walk. It's too depressing to be riding in cool weather again after the summer-like days we had in April.
I hear you. It's a little warmer here south of you, but raining, and the wind is ugly. This weekend looks to get better in these parts though.

Being car-free, I haven't that option. I ride or I stay home.

I'm car free as well, fortunately we have one of the best transit systems here, so when riding is not possible, there is always the bus, streetcar, subway or train.... Mind you some trips are faster by bike then by transit, and there are days you need to wait for 2 or 3 packed buses to go by, before you can find one that you can get on, but it beats paying for a car these days.
Some quick numbers, $100 a month for insurance, $150 for gas, $100 for maintenance, tags, parking, etc. $300/month in car payments, or $650/month for a car, heck I can get a decent commuter bike for a months worth of car expenses, and it's essentially FREE for the rest of the year. Slap a new set of tires, brake pads, chain and cassette on it, and your ready for another year, and spent less then the price of gas on a car, for a month..... Not to mention the side benefits, better health, better fitness, less pollution......
It's still a drag though, when I wanted to get a good start on the years riding, over my vacation, and ended up with 2 weeks of crappy weather. :notamused:

Drove in this morning because I'm taking a couple of zero days this week. 108 miler with 6100' of climbing last Saturday; 99 miler with 7050' of climbing coming up on Monday.
Since my routine commute is 30 miles r/t with 2000'+ of climbing, I'm not going to call some well deserved recovery days "giving up".
I think it's funny when the people who never ride a bike ask me "why'd you drive today?"

I grew up in Minnesota, and we had a saying: "There's no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing."

I've had those day sand gone anyway. Usually something unfavorable happens so now I take it as a sign. Something is telling me to stay home! There is always tomorrow!:D
