It's not even fun to mountain bike in this kind of wind. Tonights race at Prairie City should be a blast on the main plateau

It was a bit stronger than I expected around here too - riding down Niles Canyon from Sunol to Palomares yesterday around lunchtime was like a wind tunnel. I had to work hard to maintain 14mph - downhill! Climbing Palomares was a nice break:rolleyes:

My commute to work hurts, but the tailwind home is amazing. I have a nice stretch where i hit 25 on my pig commuter bike with large baskets that act like sails.

But I'm ready for the wind to be over. I hope the weekend will be better.

I found an online calculator that told me that riding at 15mph into a 10mph headwind is the same as riding up a 3.5% slope. No wonder the wind sucks so much!
You can read more about it here - blowing in the wind (http://www.cyclepig.com/archive/blowing-in-the-wind/)

I always have tailwinds, so I think it's great :-)

as I wrote yesterday, be extra vigilant with the winds. It can blow you into traffic, and it can blow traffic into you...

Oh good, I thought it was just me. I was just struggling against the headwind.

I love the wind. Best time to get in some good solid training. Learn to pace and ride strong in the wind and those calm days are a breeze.:thumb:

Went up San Bruno Mountain this lunch time. Riding Guadalupe Canyon pkway past the park entrance, was the closest I've come to being blown off a bike. Fortunately, you can cuss very loud without being heard, and as Big Sean says, I felt virtuous/smug for making it up at a reasonable speed in the face of a pretty steady headwind.

Hey DOUBLE POINTS! I got my 2nd "W" in a row!!

As a commuter from Davis to Sac I can honestly say that I HATE WIND (but it does make me stronger). It's always in my face.

Today was double points?!?!?!!?!? I missed the race due to some issues at work, but it wasn't > 100 and no rain!!!!

I'm glad someone else rides to work in the same direction as I (I go from Natomas to Rancho). The wind is in your face in the morning, then turns around and you get it on the way home too!

I'd prefer riding my road bike but its going to be my heavier (and more stable) commuter tomorrow...

I started early in the morning before the wind picked up, then around noon when it got going real good I turned around and rode 30mph all the way back home. It was awesome.

5:30 am. My house in Antioch is shaking from the wind. I'm getting ready to ride to work. Yikes.

Looked out of my window to spy on my dogs and there's a dust storm in my back yard. And I have hard packed dirt in the dog's area.

Was going to commute in this morning but work is 16 miles due north... No thanks. Put the bike in the van. That wind is going to be awesome on the way home ;) ... Haven't been on the bike since Saturday and I'm getting creaky.

Yeah, I was shocked when Brian announced double points. He said it qualified as inclement weather. Good thing I showed up because I almost missed the race due to a work related field trip. I would have blown my shot at winning my class.

Now see.. this is the constructive approach. Infact this is what I tell myself everytime I have the internal argument about "Ride? or.. nah.. too windy". More often then not "nah.. too windy" wins out pretty quick. It always boils down to, it will be windy again, and I'll ride then, heh..

I scared myself a few times today when a sudden gust nearly blew me right over. I was going down a 6% hill and just for kicks I stopped pedaling, and the wind brought me to a complete stop. I started to get kinda pissed.

5:30am -- ahhhhh, a kindred spirit. Let's hear for those of us who get up at ridiculous hours of the day in the name of work. At least it's getting light earlier now. Now if only I could work on getting to bed before 10:30 more often.

I remember all the county bus routes on my longer commute runs. When we get winds like these I just ride the fun direction to or from and let the bus fight the head wind.

Got up to 35mph on the last mile of my commute home (pancake flat). It felt weird to be having an easy time in 53/12. It was the strongest tailwind in memory. Fannnn-tastic!

We admit that we're wind wussies. We didn't ride yesterday or today. Our son came to town unexpectedly today and out to dinner we went; the wind was still howling and we didn't miss that ride.
,
We came out of the restaurant and the wind was barely puffing. 7:30 and still light -- dang!

Wussy=family bonding time. Son is playing guitar and we're all sharing some nice wine. Thanks to the wind, we get to appreciate how full life is.

At last, Friday here seems OK right now.
I'm going to see if Toto is OK, and if that house really landed on someone.

The wind blew our fence over yesterday. Do you think digging out old concrete post fittings counts as tri training?
