Southern California - Claremont's newest biker

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'd like to introduce myself to the SC forum...
I just moved to Claremont from the upper peninsula of Michigan about 2 weeks ago to start a new job in Rancho. I've been reading the local forum for a few months now and the active bike crowd is definitely one of the things that drew me to the area (in addition to sunshine, mountains, and the ocean).
I love to ride the road and the mountain, and I'll also be commuting Mon-Fri from Claremont to Rancho Cucamonga (route unknown, suggestions welcome), so if you see a guy on a Surly Steamroller, be sure to say hi! I've already met a few people who told me about the critical mass ride at the REI in Rancho, so I'll be there in June.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to meeting some of you and experiencing the great riding around here. I move into my apartment and should be riding in full swing by June -- right now I'm in commuter mode until I can get my bikes out of storage. See you around hopefully!

Oh Boy! Right next to GMR (Glendora Mt Ridge Rd). Plenty of mtn (roadbike) riding around Claremont. Also Claremont Hills Wilderness tail at the top of Mills and Monte Vista area. Plenty of fireroads and trails for mtb riding. Always plenty of bikers there.:D
Welcome to the club!:D

Well, I can't ride with you yet, but I'll buy you a beer in the meantime.
There's a fast group ride from the starbucks in the village wednesday at 5:30.

Oh, and as for the route, you could probably just go east on baseline. I've never done it in high traffic times though, so I'm not sure.

Another Steamroller rider!
I grew up in Rancho Cucamonga and take my bike home whenever I visit my parents. Riding in that area is nice. If you are a good climber (or want to improve) you can go up Padua to Mt. Baldy. Be careful on Mt. Baldy, as there are a lot of blind corners. As far as commuting, Baseline is good since it has a bike lane and is a wide street. You can also try Arrow Highway (less traffic) or 19th St.

The ride was really fast tonight.
At first I thought it was because I cut back on my riding, then I started seeing riders scattered all over the park, so at least it wasn't just me. It was still deflating though.

It was nuts tonight. I didn't make it a whole lap. Did Pat have anything to do with it?
By the way OP, welcome to Claremont and BF.

Michigan Tech graduate? You'll get used to the heat and won't miss Winter at all. Make sure to tease us all in our arm warmers and leg warmers when it dips below 60 degrees!

welcome and enjoy!

Thanks, I'd certainly be willing to take you up on that offer. I'll be moving in June 3...my company currently has me in a hotel in Ontario.
Thanks to everyone for the welcoming. Sorry I brought crappy weather from Michigan. I promise it'll be over soon.

Yeah, I just graduated in 2007. Are you familiar with the area? For the last year I've been working over in Sault Ste Marie.
Even last weekend the heat wasn't so horrible. Sure it was hot, but 100 degrees in Michigan is miserable because of the humidity.

Welcome!
I'm in Ontario, not too far from Claremont.
+1 for 16th/Baseline being one of the better east/west routes. I recommend against 19th since there just isn't much shoulder space for bikes and 16th is only afew blocks away.
You can take Baseline west to GMR and Bonelli park or east to the mountains.
Sorry for the threadjack, but does anyone know of good places to rain for cyclocross training near Claremont? I was just looking at housing there because it's such a bike friendly city. I'm definitley going to check out Claremont Hills Wilderness trails as Mr. Beanz suggested.

I see cyclocross bikes in Bonelli park, I don't know how it is though....

Cool, I'll check it out. Funny thing is that I usually practice mounts and dismount at my local park...maybe this park will be similar. Thanks for the tip.

Well, they do a race out there, and I've been in a XC race out there. nothing too technical, couple of steep hills that I wouldn't want to go down w/out a fork. Oh, and some parts get really really loose.
