Hello,

This is my first post. Please forgive my ignorance. I just got a bike and had a hard crash on Saturday because of a pedal strike caused by leaning to far in a corner. My current crank set is a FSA Vero, 130BCD, 172.5mm. I am considering changing to a Sugino RD Crankset, 130BCD, 165mm so I won't pedal strike going around corners. Here are my questions...

Will I need to change my bottom bracket when I go to a Sugino RD crankset? The current BB is 68 X 107mm and the Sugino RD crankset keeps refering to a 68 X 103mm. Sugino makes a BB that is 68 X 103mm.

Another question: Will this affect my chainline? My current chainline is 43.5mm but the Sugino RD information says to use a 68 X 103mm for a 45mm chainline.

I'm pretty confused. I basically want to change my crankset but not my bottom bracket. Can I do this?

You'd be moving the chainline 5 cm if you didn't get a new bottom bracket. I'd personally just buy the RDs and a generic Shimano 103mm BB for $20. Then sell the whole Vero kit on craigslist or something.

bb length needs to match what is specified for that crank. if you change the cranks to sugino you'll need the 103mm bb

If you don't want to mess with your bb, another option would be to go with narrower or clipless pedals instead of changing your cranks.
