After the success of the B2B rides hosted by Herb, thought I'd try my hand at organizing a route that is plied by Mr and Mrs Beanz and myself; the Santa Ana River Trail.
The rally point would be Yorba Park off of Imperial Hwy and the 91 Freeway.
Roundtrip for the route would be about 60 miles. The road surfaces are better than SGRT, at least after it swings south at Lincoln Blvd. Water tends to available near the route as well. There is usually a headwind on the way down, but you get to fly on the way back. There are a great deal more underpasses to deal with not quite as many long runs as on the SGRT, but no blind tunnels and no damn dam. There are a couple of short climbs at the beginning to take a bite at the legs, but they are tolerable.
There is no food at the, but about a half mile south on PCH there are a couple of burger places. Also, about one mile from the end at Hamilton St. there is a Carls Jr.
Directions:http://www.ocparks.com/yorbapark/default.asp?Show=LocationHours
Exit the 91 FWY and proceed north to La Palma Ave; Turn RIGHT
About 1 mile down you will pass FARIMONT Ave.
Park is on right hand side about 100 yards past Fairmont where the softball fields are. Look to park by the restroom facilities towards the eastern end of the paved parking area
Figure the standard BF meet time of 8AM with a depart of 8:30

My pseudo route slip:
Proceed south to bike trail turn left.
Head east for 3/4 mi and turn left uphill to gain La Palma Ave
Turn right onto street and proceed 1/2 mile to access bike trail again near the carwash
Proceed about 1.5-2 mi to Weir Canyon Bridge and cross
At end of bridge circle around down to the right and keep going right to the bike path.
Follow it to the end at the Green River Golf Course in about three miles.
From there, we retrace our wheels about 9 miles to the Imperial Hwy bridge cross over. I figure we could use this as a regroup point.
Continue on the trail for about 7 miles to the restroom/water stop across from the Anaheim Arena (I refuse to call it the Pond) Another regroup here.
We cross over the bridge and pick up the trail south for the next 13 miles to the sea.
We will double back along the same route, but will not have to retrace the first part of the morning resulting in a return mileage of only 23 miles to return to the park.
Facility Distance(miles)
Water 3
Water 9
Water 17.5
Water/Restroom 22
Water/Resroom 25.3
Water 30.5
Water/Restroom (Sea) 35
Anyway, that's how I see it. I'll try to generate a map for it. At the least, I should have a paper map to hand out for interested parties at the rally point. Hope those of you from the SFV can make it.
