Well I am having a rough time deciding which wheelset to go with. I am torn between two different wheelsets. Both wheelsets will have dt swiss competition spokes and Mavic Open Pro rims. My problem is deciding which hubs to go with. I can either go with Chris King or with Hugi 240's. If price wasn't a concern I would definately be going with the Kings, but price is a concern. I can get the Hugi's for $130 cheaper.

Can anyone compare the two?

If it matters I am riding a Giant TCR Composite 1. I plan on using my original wheels for most of my training and saving the new wheelsets for special occasions.

I'm very happy with American Clasic hubs. Check out their CR420 rims matched with DT Swiss bladed spokes; very sweet.

Cheers

I appreciate your advice but unfortunately that is not one of my options. These are the choices that the shop that I race mountain bikes for gave me. I can get either one of these at cost, but the King set costs $130 more. If the quality of the hubs is about the same then I could use the extra money towards something else. Not sure what yet but I could always use some extra money.

In that case, I would go with the King. Spending 130$ now will be well woth it in the long run.

Many people in Europe swear by Hugi hubs, but I have no personal experience with them. That being said if I were to choose hubs it would either be Record or Hugi for me.

I had HUGI hubs a while back. Never again!

Get the Chris Kings. My HUGI rear hub blew on me in one season and I had no forward drive for the 11 miles back to my jeep.

If I ever have the dilemma of two products, I ask myself this question: Which ones would I buy if money was not and issue? Then I save a bit longer and always buy the one I really wanted. If I did buy the cheaper option I would eventually get the more expensive one later on, which ends up costing me more money in the long run.

On that bike the Kings are definitely the way to go. I have the same bike. :D

CHEERS.

I blew my Hugi up as well but it had many, many miles on it when it went. I'm currently riding a Shimano something or other on my MTB but have CKs on my cross bike. I love the CKs. They're the best hubs made in my opinion. The Hugis are good too, however, just need more maintenance. I'll probably order the rebuild kit and use the Hugi again this summer.

sorry to interject this: i have ridden open pro's for many many many years and miles, and they don't strike me as a 'special occasion' wheel.

these bombproof wheels are everyday workhorses.

sorry, now back to your regularly scheduled programming....

Get the King's.

The Kings cost more than most hubs for a reason, and it has nothing to do with "paying for the name".

These hubs are a work of art, if there is one place to really make an investment I would say pay the extra for the King hubs. They will never let you down, and you will have them forever.
