I bought a Trek 2.3 a month or so ago to get into shape. 53 years old, carrying 30 pounds or so I don't need, used to run but messed up my knee. I need a challenge..to race..to tour. I enrolled in a Cycle Camp that is going over basic bike maintenance and group riding skills. Not going far, but learning alot. Longest ride has been 16 miles (I know, not much..but for me it is. Today we went and did some hills...damn near killed me but I got down into my granny gear and got up. It felt great! I think that I am hooked. My legs are stiff and I'm sure they will be sore as hell tomorrow...but it was worth it.

You're well on the way to discovering that cycling is "Life" (sorry for the bad pun).

Your story contains some familiar elements. There are a remarkable number of people here who have returned to cycling in there 40's and 50's after many years of not riding. I did the same five years ago, and was pleased as could be when I did a 17 mile ride. Stick with it and you might be looking for century rides next year. :)

:D .

Say, could we interest you in a vintage bike or two as well? That's where the real addiction starts (check my signature for the Vintage Bike Liberation Front)...

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions :) !
