Well, tonight, The Blonde and I were having a light dinner at the East Sac Taqueria, and while I was jabbering away about something stupid that happened at work today, she said "Hey, do you want to be a Boy Scout?" and I, of course, being in total Dumbazz Male Mode said "What?"
The Blonde: "Don't you see her?" She pointed at the corner of 38th and J, in front of the Peet's Coffee Shop (our local competitor to Starbucks), and there's a woman with a cane, who even at a distance has to be pushing 90, hump shouldered and such, who is trying to cross the street.
Now, its rush hour, and people can't be bothered to stop for another human being, right, and there's no light at this corner... its a little strip mall area at the beginning of the "Fabulous 40s" (translated - $1,000,000 houses on up - this is the NICE part of East Sacramento), so I jump up and dash across the street *just* as she's decided to start going across, even though there's still too much traffic.
Me: "Ma'am... let me help you here." I hold up and wave my arms and stop the cars.
Old Lady: "Why thank you. That's very kind. I have to take some medicine, and I like to get a soda at the store across the street."
She offered to TIP me. I, of course, did not take the tip. I said "Your thanks is enough for me. Have a good evening!"
So, what altruisms have you done lately? These build good karma, you know.

I killed no one today.
A couple of weeks ago a sales rep left her laptop case complete with Mac Air in the parking lot. I hunted her down and returned it.

I'd say that's a good start only if you also did not permanently maim someone.

Permanently? No.
A few good years of therapy and they'll be fine.

Went to Disneyland a few weeks back. After a purchase, the young vendor gave me $7 too much change back. I thought she did while she counted out the change, but wasn't sure and didn't want either one of us to feel awkward, so I left without bringing it to her attention. I walked a ways considering my options. I decided no way was I going to knowingly rip off a Disneyland employee, so I recounted the money to confirm the over-payment, then walked back and returned it. She was surprised I would even do that. I told her that Disney karma isn't anything to fool with.

I saw a really large cockroach crawl out of a guy's gym bag yesterday in the changing room. I caught it and put it back in and zipped the pocket. I figured it had to be his pet or something.
I found a ladies purse once and returned it to her. I kept the 700 bucks said the kids at park probably stole it. I see it as a win-win. :D
True story, except the part about me keeping the money, I returned it as well.

This kid was waiting on us at 'Not your average Joe's' and it was his first day there. Later on as the crowds thinned out and our discussion had, as usual, filtered down to politics and society, kid was having some difficulty getting two tray fulls of glasses onto the counter and I gave him a hand. Bartender gave me a free drink too :D..
telling of good deeds reduces the inherent karma.

After a huge party my neighbors had the other day I found a bunch of their paper plates, plastic eating utensils, chicken bones and empty beer bottles on my lawn. I promptly returned them early in the morning so they wouldn't miss them. :)

Oh great. My dogs were just barking up a storm so I went to investigate. There's a cute but ugly springer spaniel all lonely and scared in this wind.
So now I have a snake AND a matted pooch that I have acquired all within less than 24 hours.

So, if I fall asleep under your truck or sit in the alley howling, I can move in. Good to know.

I let somebody else on the TdC last weekend use my sunblock because of all the things they had at the rest stops, sunblock wasn't one of them.

Some gent left his car running at the gas pump while he went in to buy some ciggs. I promptly moved the car, turned it off, and locked it so no one could steal his keys. Or car for that matter.
I was then able to help the oil companies too by filling up with premium. Yay me!

I let an 8 year old girl beat me at tether ball the other day by pretending to miss several of her "rocket" slams. Just yesterday I gave the right of way to a pretty blond driving a pink VW bug in a Post Office parking lot. The reward for my generosity - a big smile.

She looked so helpless and lost. I couldn't help myself.
I raised a little over $1800 for a kid (well, I'm old, 21 is a kid) that lost his left leg below the know in Iraq. We're going bike shopping next week, he's got his new cycling prosthetic and I'm looking at putting him on a Tarmac.

The ones I think of are saving from drowning.
Most recently 2 alligator lizards, one fromhte pool skimmer oan one from a trash can full of water. (Or the same stupid lizard twice). I fish out bees also, those can be a bit tricky as I'm allergic. Going way back two older ladies at the beach. Actually pretty easy they had just gotten pulled out past where the sand dropped off, I was still on solid footing and could just reach out and have one grab my hand.
Oh wait I can add one, fishing a little dog off the street. A bit dicey as it was near dust and while a side street it is one used as a shortcut and the stupid little thing would not come to anyone, including his owners. But eventually he bolted into the garage of his owners and the lady was quick enough in hitting the door closer and they had him.
Actually this or similar things are common. I'll help pretty much any stray dog. never had a problem yet. Dogs usually can tell intent, though some are pretty shy.

Reminds me of a failed stray saving. In canyon country where I live, people often drop off their unwanted dogs, thinking the kind-hearted people up here will take them in. The dogs are usually large in size, and less than a year old. The theory is that someone got a cute puppy, and then once it began growing and eating and pooping a lot, plus needing lots of attention and guidance, the owner decided they couldn't care for it anymore. They're usually easy to spot - reasonably well fed, no collar or ID tag, frightened, aimlessly walking up and down the street, and panting furiously in the blazing heat up here. Last year I saw one darting across my back yard, I called to it, hoping to calm it down and give it some needed water. It responded and allowed me to pet him and walk him over to where the water dish was. At the moment it began it's first laps of water, my jealous Lab britch walked around the corner, screamed her disapproval and chased him away. :( ::sniff::
I saved a baby squirrel the other day. He was in the middle of a walk way and people were walking around it. It looks injured so I picked it up and put on a step next to me. I sat with that baby squirrel for an hour. I was looking all over campus for someone who can take care of it for I didn't want to leave it for something to eat it. (It was about the size of my palm) People gave me the weirdest looks during that hour. There was a young lady who came by and dropped off a piece of an apple and some water for the squirrel to eat which was very nice of her. Well, after that hour a graduate student who works with a squirrel expert on campus came by and inspected the baby squirrel. She wrapped it up in her coat and took it to her office.
That same day 3 more baby squirrels were found in our machine shop across from where I work.
Bad news though... the next day the baby squirrel I saved died of starvation. Although it ate the apple it needed formula. The mother was either eaten or had abandoned her babies.

Mine is more of a work in progress.
This evening I, along with 5 other adults and 6 teenagers edged, weeded and mulched an elderly couple's yard. It took us about two and a half hours. In turn, they donated $250 to support our mission trip to New Orleans this summer where we will be working for Habitat for Humanity (http://www.habitat.org/).
We raised about 50% of the cost so far, everything else comes out of our pocket. This money goes to feeding us, transporting us down there and whatever housing costs there are (we'll be sleeping in cots in a church).
<tired>
Don't know about a good deed, but I just forgave someone for something nasty that happened 2 years ago and I didn't want anything to do with this person and ... he's now being like his old self and so I offered the "olive branch" or white flag --- and we're cool and so this is good as he's a cool guy. I feel good and I think he may feel it as well.
Ahhhh and live in whoosville is alllll gooooood......

Dang, the only thing I can think of was when we were at the dump, and some old lady had broughten a truck load of stuff. It was obvious she couldn't handle it. We walked over and started helping her. She got a little OVERLY friendly with us, but that was fine.

I got to hold a young girl after she bounced on the ground from falling off a high bar. She was taken to the hospital and found to have a swollen neck, compressed vertabre X2 and other bruising.
I almost cried.
