The Badger State Trail finally is ready for bikers! Spring weather caused problems, but everything is fixed and the trail has been rolled. Just opened in July 2007, the trail has been popular because it is only twenty minutes from Madison, WI and just two hours from Chicago. I am amazed at the number of groups who have come to see the old railroad tunnel. The tunnel is still a little wet from spring, but worth the ride to see it and ride through. One bridge in Monroe was just closed because of the lack of safety rails at present, but it was easy to by-pass using the streets. www.badger-trail.com

Thanks for the update - I'll be in the area some time this summer and plan to check it out.

We will be in New Glarus this weekend and may ride the Badger trail.
Do we need lights to pass through the tunnel?

Yes. And watch for sand. It can get squishy. Although the fact that it has been super dry without the need for trail repair should mean that the trail is in great shape. Don't forget to buy your trail pass at the Depot. I guarantee they will be checking.
