Introductions - Newbie from Western Australia

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Where are you from?
Perth, Western Australia
What do you ride?
I've had a pretty basic hybrid (Indi Bombora) since 2002, but I'm planning on becoming a regular bike commuter and will probably look into upgrading to a road or utility bike in the future.
How long have you been riding?
I can't remember learning! I've been riding, on and off, since I was a little kid.
Anything else we should know about you?
I'm in my late twenties and still don't have a driver's license, making me somewhat of an oddity in this car town. I keep meaning to get it, but I'm lazy and the bus and bike take me most places I need. :)

Welcome to BF.
You can save some money by not owning a car.
How much does gasoline cost there?
$3.70 a gallon here in Texas.

$3.70? Wow, it's closer to $6.70 / gallon here, presuming I got my volume and currency conversions correct. ($1.55 / litre) Long live my bike! :)

Pretty close.
Where in Perth do you live? I lived there from 2001 until 2005 and used to cycle commute from Warwick to West Perth.

People in the United States think they pay too much!
Bikes are becoming very popular here, as well :D .

I live in the Wembley / Jolimont area and work in the CBD, so it's a fairly short commute with nice new bike paths most of the way. I suspect navigating through the CBD traffic and pedestrians to work will probably be the hardest part!

Make sure you have a bell on your bike and you should be ok at least as far as the pedestrians go. The ones not using Ipods that is.
