Road Bike Racing - Races in Montana/Idaho/Wyoming

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm going to be out west for a week or so this august (probably somewhere between aug 10-20), and I've been trying to figure out whether there are any races going on at this time that'd make sense to base my schedule around. I've searched around a fair bit, w/o much luck; can't tell whether this is because I don't know where to look, or because there just isn't much information available. I'll be staying in west yellowstone & maybe missoula most of this time; I'm interested in anything w/in 5-6 hours of either spot. I'd also be interested in any fast group rides, competitive or otherwise. I've found very little information online, and there has to be something going on at this time ...

If you want a USCF race, go to usacycling.org.

I'm about 5 hours from W. Yellowstone. We have Tuesday and Wednesday night crit series (http://utahcritseries.com/Default.aspx) and sometimes a TT on Thursdays.
Oh and the Tour of Utah (http://www.tourofutah.com/) is in town that week, too.
I just spent a couple of weeks in WY for work and only saw 3 people on road bikes while there. I was in Gillette most of the time, which is across the state from where you will be, but also went to Sheridan. Did see a couple of people commuting in Sheridan but not on road bikes. Also went into a bike shop in Gillette and they only had a couple of low end road bikes, mostly BMX and MTB. I posted in the regional forum and got a couple of hits but not a whole lot of information. Good luck!

I think Cypress just chased the competition out of the whole region.
You're looking for what? Where?

Southern Wyoming's two large stage races (Dead Dog Classic and High Uintas) are both in June. I am unaware of any significant road racing in the state in August.

Very nice. That's exactly the sort of thing I was looking for, but was somehow too stupid to find. Thinking I might spend a day or two in Boise, then. And get a 12-27 ... there's nothing remotely like those 'hillclimbs' in the nyc area.
Anyone know of any under-advertised training rides originating in area cities? Particularly Missoula/Billings/Bozeman?

If you're in Butte stop by the Outdoorsman and ask about any rides going on while you're in town. They're really cool guys and can hook you up with something that way (it'd be more of a weekly worlds type thing). As well over in Bozeman if you feel up to taking on teh Cypress in all of his fury, they have a Tuesday night series (on the 19th of August they'll be doing Bridger Canyon Road) that is supposedly quite hotly contested.
