I know I could ride Highway 4 up to Ebbett's Pass and beyond but I'm not too keen on the narrow, no-shoulder road. How about MTB rides? Any good long trails and/or loops?

Check out the Ogre's site. Tons of stuff on there. Here's a link for Southern Sierras.

Awesome. Thanks. I remember buying a "trail map" at the Bear Valley concession store but it sucked.

For some reason the interactive map is not working for me. This is my main website for finding new trails though.

I'm actually apprehensive about riding the listed trails alone. Never know if something happens you wouldn't have anyone to help or go for help. My wife doesn't ride :(.

On Friday the 30th, I'm riding from Stockton to Arnold. The route we do is great with a lot of hills. Part of the route is featured on the upcoming Sierra Century.

There are a lot of roads that you can go on. Let me know what day you're considering riding and I'll try and join you.

As for MTB, Bear Valley has some good trails. I seriously doubt they are open yet. So you will have to travel down to Valley Springs and ride Hogan or travel down to Angels Camp and ride New Melones.

Hogan is fun and a bit technical. New Melones is not technical at all, but a lot of fun swoopy trails.

We're heading to Arnold Saturday (5/24) so I'll either ride Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. The Ogre's website unfortunately doesn't provide much detail on how to get to the trail/ride starts.

Are there any other sites with more detail for trailheads? If I don't do MTB, I'll bring my cross bike and give Ebbett's Pass a try (34x32 low gear should be enough eh?).

34x32 should be plenty for Ebbetts. I use a 34x27 and it was plenty for me on Ebbetts. Your cross would be fun at New Melones. Click here (http://arnica.csustan.edu/mtbike/Maps/New_Melones.jpg) for a map of the trail head.
