As a young single guy I don't need to ask permission, so I figured what the heck.
I got a pretty good deal on it since it is a 2006, but I like this frame design better than the new ones anyways. Went with some Look Keo pedals and new Pearl Izumi shoes. I'd write more, but I'm gonna mow the lawn quick and take this baby for a spin.

Man, that thing just LOOKS fast. I still maintain that when I hit 237lbs, I'm buying a Madone. My wife doesn't like the idea... but she didn't like the idea of a LHT originally. Then a month later she was the one (almost literally) pushing me out the door and telling me to go buy one! :D

Noice... very noice! First thing I did was to remove the reflectors :D

NIIIIICE! MAKE SURE THAT THE SHOP RETENSIONS THOSE SPOKES at the free tuneup. Lowcount spokes use much higher tension. As a clyde, if you run low tension, big trouble!:D

After the cables stretch and settle, then remove the spoke protector on the back too. But not until it's settled or u could lose a back wheel!

very nice.. I would make sure to get a good alloy seatpost, that carbon post is not going to last if you are 200+..

A Thompson seatpost would be the way to go. You can sell your carbon on ebay. Otherwise just ride it until it fails. Who knows, maybe it will be just fine...

I'd set aside some cash for a new saddle right away though. Those Bontrager saddles are bad news.

Everything else looks fantastic. Congratulations on your new hot rod! :thumb:

Either way, you should be happy that your madone has a standard shape post. A bud has a 08 that has the bladed type of cf post. My thinking is it would be hard to replace with an aftermarket post (?)

Congratulations.

For the Richardson Wild Bike Ride last week, they were raffling off a Trek Madone. They had a display model in the Richardson Bike Mart (actual bike to be fitted for the winner). But on the display, they had a nice wicker basket on the handlebars. I thought that was classy. :)

I put about 20 miles on the ol girl tonight. Not a single problem. Yeah i know the seat post is carbon and all, but I'm not gonna worry about it til I break it. My LBS claims I should be ok on all the parts, wheels, etc and based on what I can see so far I agree.
The double crankset really makes you man up when it comes to the long steep hills. Very smooth ride. I used to max out my gearing on my Giant all the time. There's no way I'm to that point with this ride yet.

Trust me, as an old married f*rt, when I say this, buy all the toys you can when your young and single..... Once you have a wife and a couple of rug rats, your time buying toys is so over......:notamused:

I can't add enough zeros after the +1.

But hey, I can't complain. I waited until I was 30, and got a great couple of kids and a wife who is pretty darn supportive of this cycling addiction.

It's still hard to get used to. Danged hard. Oh, and the $700/mo healthcare premiums for a family are the worst! :twitchy:

$700 a month  Makes me glad I live in Canada, where we have a national health care system. Yes, I pay more taxes, but man, $700 a month, that's way more then the difference.......

Couldn't agree more, but would temper it just a bit - don't go eyeballs deep in debt to do it. One thing worse than sacrificing the toy addiction when you get married is having to pay for them for years after. Not that I know anything about that or anything, I just know a guy who knows a guy who...

RAGBRAI Bling! Nice ride, did you buy it locally?

Yup, picked it up in La Crosse. I was looking at some Cannondales, but the closest dealer is in Rochester, so I thought that might be quite a drive for service work.

I wandered through the Trek shop in La Crosse last fall. I noticed they had a number of leftover's backthen.

Nice bike... isn't it amazing how much faster you can ride on a good road bike. I love "New Old Stock," the bike is ne, but I have a bunch of $$$. In my case being tall helped because the only bikes the store was trying to get rid of were for tall folks. I just picked up an '06 LeMond back in April and saved a good amount over list, and it was nearly a grand less than the current model. I have been loving the fast ride. The only complaint was that the stock saddle (looks the same as what you have) did not agree with my body at all. The 1st week it didn't bother me much, but as I started to ride more, the pain got worse and I started to get numbness. I got a Selle Royal Dardo. It was inexpensive yet is light years more comfortable for me. After an 82 mile ride, no numbness.

Enjoy the ride!
