my sleep study is about a week and a half away. they sent me a questionare and sleep diary to fill out to hand to them when i have the study done. no big deal but some of the questions are asinine at best.

for example: what age did you start snoring? i answered: i don't know, no one has ever told me and i've never asked.

they also ask how long does it take to fall asleep? i answered i don't know i don't wear a stop watch to bed, and never had anyone time me before.

and my favorite is in the sleep diary they ask that if i wake up during the night what time i wake up and how long does it take me to get back to sleep? i'll answer this one based on whether or not i get out of bed.

if i do not get out of bed the answer will be: i don't know i wear glasses and i can't see the clock from my bed & i'm not going to get up just see what time it is. if i do get out of bed to let the dog out, etc., i might look at the clock to see what time it is. but i still won't know how long it takes me toget back to sleep.

seriously how can they expect people to know some of these answers. who really knows how long it takes to fall asleep and if they do snore at what age they started. i think they need to re-write the questionare.

I took up snoring at age 10, in complete disregard of the wishes of my parents. It's a wonder I turned out as well as I did, considering my checkered past.

I'm strange about that. I like to wake myself up as soon as I drop off. All I'd have to do then is check the time. Why didn't they ask me this question?

That's easy. It takes me about 10 minutes longer than when I wake up in the middle of the night, but don't have to log it in a book.

Once they realize how complicated it is for you, N_C, they'll probably see the uniqueness of your situation and withdraw the questionnaire. In it's place, you'll get another, lengthier one with more detailed questions.

Well, obviously, N_C, now that you see how difficult it is for you to answer these questions, now you know why they are asking: nobody really knows!

Good stuff, N_C!

I had a sleep study done on me in July. I had to fill out the diary too. Yeah, it's a pain. But it gave my doctor real insight into my sleep habits.
I used to fall asleep at night in less than 10 seconds. I snored, on my stomach, on my side, through my nose. My wife got after me to get checked out. I was always tired, couldn't make decisions, took me forever to get awake in the morning, you name it I probably did it.
They discovered more than 80 arousals an hour. Which unusual cause I'm only slightly over weight.
I'm now on a C-pap machine at night.
Benefits: I wake up rested. I can make decisions again. My blood pressure dropped to 100 over 60. It was borderline high before that. I have more energy.
If I had only known about 6 years ago when I first started snoring I would have done this one hellava lot sooner! :D
