whenever i do trackstand i hear a creaking noise
like an old door
is it my cranks or the bottom bracket?
possibly the chain?

i trackstand with my wheel to the right
so whenever i push back on the left crank it creaks
its never the right side
but i'll go check
it could be anything you mentioned but irideacenturion had the same deal and it was the bolts.

while your down there, you should check everything else. speaking of that, when the last time any of you have done some work on your bike? you know, a little tune up and cleaning. i figure i do it maybe every 2 and a half weeks or so.

and i was going to vote for it actually being an "old door".
i had a similar creaking sound last year and that's exactly what it was. just oiled up the hinges and while i was down there threw some weather stripping around the windows, changed the furnace filter and repacked the bb with some phil's and voila: a silent ride and 20% savings on my gas bill.

yea its the chainring bolts. i had that problem when i first put on my crankset. it would pop/creak when i leaned on it. for good measure i added a little more grease in the pedal threading. but yea tighten those chainring bolts.

is dangermouse trapped in your bb? j/k
i locktite my chainring bolts... make sure you use steel or stronger -- not aluminum
it pays to have everything down there tightened to spec. likewise for all the advice above

My chainring bolts loosened themselves enough for two to fall out before I noticed. Pretty distressing. Now I'm running on three until the new ones get here... Doesn't seem to be too terrible, it's not creaking either.
