On my ride today I broke 40,000' climbed since I got my 305 in March. It got me wondering and I thought I'd ask how much vertical everyone else has logged so far.

And yes, I realize I spelled vertical wrong :(

I have about 60,000 according to my CicloSport.

But it tends to register a lower amount of elevation gain than other computers, so perhaps I've climbed more than that. Or not.

Over on bikejournal we've discussed the relative elevation gains on various computers, and the conclusion is basically 'your vertical may vary'.

Glenn (gw_12) has climbed to the moon & back.

a bit over 120,000, but I have been focused on racing and not doing much climbing. But when ya ride 5 days a week and get atleast 1000ft a ride, it adds up.

Computer says 173,970 since November 06.

I haven't been riding too much this year. Only have 91,479.

In 2007, I had 327,771.

Since I got my Garmin last July, I've got over 97,000ft in 2007 and 142,000ft so far in 2008.

I only have data for the past three months, since I got the altimeter watch. So far, I'm at 77k.

I have a 305 and Ascent and can't figure out how to tell my yearly vertical without adding up every individual day.

In Garmin Training Center, I just put all the 2007 rides in a separate folder and the same for 2008. Then I can look at a total for each folder. Don't know if you can do that on Ascent though.

Yes, if you go to the totals tab the first row will have the grand total for every ride in that folder, including ascent, mileage, and time.

Not enough vertical. Then again, I'm Asian... we're not known for our vertical. (Yao Ming aside... he's just a freak of nature!) Oh wait, wrong sport... :D

Hmm, there was a question on this not long ago on the road forum. My crude estimate was that I'd probably gone close to 70,000ft by now. I've don't have GPS, but my rationale came from an average of 6000ft/wk ~55miles per week (based upon my regular east bay weekend rides and San Bruno Mountain rides during the week). My computer tells me I've only managed 700miles this year (as of yesterday), but that all seems to gel.

168,000 feet on the rides I've tracked so far this year. I don't bother to enter them all in though....

175,861. I use Ascent too, and it gives me weekly, monthly and annual totals for everything - distance, time in zones, etc., etc. Are you in Summary View (the top button to the right of calendar view at top)?

I think the Davis Double had more vertical than my entire year of riding prior... D'oh! Darn valley!

Summary view, I can see monthly and weekly, no yearly. Andi get a graph, but no hard numbers. Am I missing some button or something?

That's kinda sad. ;) Since Davis doesn't have much climbing for a double. :p

I have 88,000 in just under 1600 miles. My riding is kind of taking a back seat to running and swimming right now.

I've run about 50 miles in the last 4 weeks and climbed 1500 feet. My Polar says I climb a lot when I swim at the pool too. Something's not quite right there.

Ouch! I've only managed to get 79k. That can't be right.

I propose a contest for June to see how much vertical we can individually get in one month.

I hate swimming uphill. Swimming is hard enough without the climbs.

I think it's the tremendous strength I have as I pull back for each stroke. It puts a lot of pressure on the unit.

I climbed out of bed this morning -that's gotta count for at least 20K, right? Wait, before you answer - it was before 4:30.

Now how much would you pay? Don't answer yet, because if you call now you'll also receive...

I don't have an altimeter so I am somewhat dependent on others and bikely for elevation gain. My standard pre-work loop from home to Page Mill/Moody is 26.2 miles and 1469-1900 ft depending on how many times I climb Moody road. I was tracking my rides on bikejournal but after the intro period you are severely restricted as to categories. I'll either pay up or throw together a spreadsheet and keep track there.

If you are lacking you are welcome to join me as this adds 12.2k in one ride.

When I kept track, it was about 360k/year, 40k a month during the real riding season. Powertap doesn't track elevation though and edge is for mtb only now. Everest challenge accounts for nearly 10% of my climbing a year... Probably climbed more when I lived in SB.

So June is Vertical month?

Maybe a vertical ratio... vertical feet/miles. Gives those of us who can't ride as many miles/hours a fighting chance.
