Hello all and I would like to start out by saying how valuable and informative I have found this forum to be. Thank you to all for your postings.
My wife and I are new to tandems, we purchased a demo from the Santana Factory and have been very happy with it so far. I have had some problems with Bottom brackets, both captain and stoker positions. My local shop replaced the captains and stated that it had the cheapest cartridge bracket made, Tange. They said it was worn out and they replaced it with a shimano. The only thing I could see wrong with it was that it has play, radiully in the axel. I then am noticing play in the stokers bottom bracket when pulling on the cranks vertically, I can see the chain rings move and can feel the play at the axel when I put my finger between it and the casing. My LBS says its ok, Santana say's they have had no problems with the Tange, square taper cartridge bottom brackets, but they say send them in and they will take a look at them and replace them, since it has only been 6 months. My question is, they seem smooth, but the play troubles me. Is the play normal by anyones experience or is that the sign of a worn bottom bracket? Any experience with this would be appreciated. I hate to send them in and be without, waiting for replacements if nothing is wrong with them.
