Oh man - I can see the thread titles throughout the weekend ...

I tried to get fat and couldn't, but got a girlfriend.

Got fat and lost it and lost her as well.

I was skinny and only gained in one thigh, yet she left me.

She too had the same ... multi problem/personalities and so we ... left each other ...

Actually, that was true through the middle ages as well. The prosperous individuals were those that often ate large meals, with excess meats, etc... often times, the serf-lords and kings would gain weight from such a diet, whereas the serfs themselves ate vegetables and bowls of soup made of bread and a water-based mixture. There's actually a name for the soup, Orwell describes it in Homage to Catalonia (although talking about times a bit after the middle ages) but it eludes me now.
