I have a job interview with the local hospital for a RN position when I graduate next year. There will be a 14K signing bonus. The strange thing that I don't understand is that they said they are interviewing all the candidates at the same time in the same room. There are 7 RN positions open and the signing bonus will be given to 7 fourth year students.
The signing bonus is about half of what I am looking for, but what I am wondering about is what to expect in an interview situation like the one explained above. One of my fellow student nurses said she thinks it means that they are going to hire all of us at the same time because that is the only reason they would bring us in at the same time.
If I take the job it will be part time and self scheduling, so I can get a job up north as a travel nurse as well. The bonus part about that is, that traveling up north in my spare time earns about 3K a week gross, and my wife will not have to leave her family.
I can also work at the hospital part time this summer but not as an RN. The pay is only 13$/hour, where I am now is closer to 20/hour. The only problem is that at the nursing home I do mainly call ins, and have only been scheduled for 11 shifts all summer. This allows me time to do a lot of hiking and practicing skills, but at the same time the debts keep getting bigger.
So I wonder if anybody could give me another perspective on my situation because upon reflection I am having trouble deciding what all this means.
Thank you.
