So apparently when I was standing still straddling my bike at the Arlington 500, and a guy knocked me over and fell on top of me (stuck in his clipless pedals), and I landed with my right side on a cement curb, I either severely bruised or (no x-rays yet) cracked a rib. No exterior bruising, which I had expected to be that nice yellow/purple/black+blue color. And it doesn't hurt just walking around. But when something bumps into my side :mad:

Still able to ride though, did 30 miles yesterday at Deer Park. :bike2:

Ouch. Sorry to hear it. Rib injuries are no fun.

I fell when snowboarding about 4 years ago and bruised my ribs pretty bad. The doc just gave me pain meads, if I recall. Sleeping was the worst. Turning over in bed was excruciating for a week or two and it took about a month to really start feeling like I was healing fully.

You'll feel when you are at a limiting point as far as movement goes, but you may want to check in with a doctor just to make sure you didn't hurt anything else in the process. I'm not sure how hard he hit, but recursive had a bad fall a few years ago and it took a few days to find out that his spleen had ruptured. He could probably fill you in on that fun.

Did I just write pain meads up there? I guess that's just as good as pain meds, eh? :)

That's it. I recommend you take in plenty of pain meads to quell the pain.

I have a brother-in-law Mead. And he is a pain. So if I want pain, I go to him.

I agree with CyLowe. Get it checked out.

I hope this dude at least apologized profusely. That sucks.

That sux ! A quick chest xray would help diagnose and rule out other nastyness although if you're able to ride 30 miles, chest tube insertion probably wouldn't be required.

Nothing they can do for rib injuries. You might like this story. I sponsor/host a go-kart race every year and it's quite competitive with many people with car and motorcycle track experience.

I was racing along and tried to go flat out through a section that just couldn't hold it (at least I couldn't), started to drift, and kissed the wall sideways. I nearly flew out of the cart but was held in by the steering wheel ... by way of my ribs.

I finished the race with one hand/arm as I couldn't apply force with my left. When I got home, I laid down to go to sleep. I then hear ... bump .. bump ... bump .. bump ... over and over. This got me worried as I realized it was my heart flopping around audibly (not internal hearing, external). I am now worried and checked but could see no discoloration of protruding bones. I could still breath (no garbage in my lungs) but it really ... really hurt to breath deeply.

So, I consider a trip to the ER or just wait till morning. I decided to wait till morning and it's not so easy to sleep with an Edgar Alan Poe thing happening in your chest.

When I wake up in the morning, still no bruising but bending, breathing, or lord forbid coughing. I call my doctor and he says "Can you see any internal bleeding?" I say no, he says "Are your lungs free?", I say yes. He then says, you probably paritally collapsed a lung (that's what allowed my heart to flop around in my chest cavity) and cracked some ribs (the pain). I can't do anything unless I operate and I will only operate if you have internal bleeding or bleeding in your lungs.

So ... be prepared for pain. It will eventually go away.

Why do you hate your body?

I broke 2 ribs a month ago today.
The day I broke them I was mountian biking at Vultures Knob, Went down about 1/2 way through a lap. Rolled around on the ground for a few minutes, decided I wasnt going to die and rode the lap out.
Skipped my saturday ride, did a 50 mile road ride on Sunday worked on Monday and did another 30 miles that night.
I had to go to the Doctors on Tuesday anyway, and yes I rod to his office. I off handedly mentioned that I just may have hurt some ribs. He starts poking around and says"Yes you most likely have broken 2. I could send you for xrays but it would be a waste of time and money, Because you allready knew you broke them." Wouldnt give me any good drugs. Sent me home and told me not to do anything stupid for a while.

Did Tosrv a week and a half later. Im now to the point that it only hurts bad standind and climbing when the heart rate goes over 180.

But let me tell you that opening and closing the chuck on my lathe at work sucked for about 3 weeks.
