Touring - Homemade mud flaps

picked up some scrap leather at the leather shop for $3. Spend about an hour making them and BAM!

Funny I did the same thing last weekend, except I reused boot tongues from a really old pair of Doc Martens that I threw out. Interesting coincidence, the piece of leather is formed exactly in the right shape for that use!!

Cool! How did you affix them to the fenders?

I used the plastic rivets/washers that held on the cheapo rubber ones that came with the fenders, then drilled two small holes in the fender on either side and used black zip ties to get it it adhere to the contour of the fender.

zip ties in my case, thru holes I drilled in the fenders.

It's A Good Thing

Sweet! I don't know of any local leather shop around these parts, so I used rubber stair tread, as someone else on BF suggested. Works great! Picked up the stair tread at Home Depot.

I, too, made them with $0.79 vinyl stair tread from Home Depot, and attached with zip ties. I've had a zip tie break once, but no other problems. Details here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/michaelcr/1968093322/).

Just think of all the things you can use to make these. Denim, inner tube, old worn out tire (bike) plastic water bottle, the list is endless, well almost. :)

By the way, nice looking flaps.
