I just received this new headlight (http://www.akslen.com/HL_42.html). This $23 unit is certainly not in the krieg light leagues with Dinotte or Fenix, nor did I expect such (I already have a Fenix Q5), still I was impressed at the compact size, clever utility and beam output of this light which is best suited for casual recreational or commuting use (moderate speed, paved surface, not a lot of proximity to auto traffic). I don't know what kind of LEDs are in the head but the three of them have individual proprietary socket reflectors that cast a nice white light with a nice balance between focus and spread. Of course the beam won't be casting itself over a long distance but it is noticeably brighter than other units in the same price range that I have tested in stores. In addition, the design is modular so that you quickly attach a second 3-LED reflector head to the same body in seconds without tools. There would be some sacrifice to battery life but you can turn off or remove the second reflector in a few seconds if you no longer require the higher light output. For $38 you can get two lights in one. It is not for everyone, especially those whose situations require maximum lumens, but in terms of quality, versatility and light-for-the-buck, it is a great value.
