I'm in for the 50km, but the ride to and from the event makes it more like a 100km :D

Well, I went and did the 50km... 46km actual, pretty windy, not warm, but enough for arm warmers.
1h 40m says my computer, while getting stuck behind echelons and helping broken down people. It was fun, the only thing that peeved me was the Pass Left < > Slower on Right was ignored, but no big deal. :)
Saw a couple of people being treated for injuries on the return leg right after the lawrence or eglinton on ramp. I hope they are ok.
Recumbent on the Gardiner ftw, so much wind that the naturally aero position must have been way easier to pedal.
I was on a brushed al CAAD9 btw, got there at about 8am, wearing a plain blue jersey, black LG shorts, cannondale arm warmers and giro helmet.

I should point out that I thought the start point was actually at lawrence/DVP, not exhibition, which is actually less than 15mins away by bike. In total I did about 55km...

I passed the two accidents being cleaned up by EMS on the DVP south also. Hope those guys are alright.

We signed up for the 75 km, 6:45 am start, but because it was cold and very windy, and he hadn't gone to bed particularily early or ridden much this year, Jr. suggested we cut it short, so we ended up doing 55km - we skipped the second loop up to York Mills. I was on a green Bike Friday with drop bars and skinny tires, and he was on his white Norco mountain bike with knobbies. Usually he kills me on the uphills, so I chose the faster bike this year to try to keep up. Our average speed was better than last since I wasn't holding him back as much on the climbs, and obviously because it was shorter - last year it was 80km in 4 hours, and this year 55 km in 2:20, so about 23.5 km/hr or 14.6 mph.

My favourite part is usually the 6 km straight home stretch along the waterfront, and after 10 or 15 km of mostly downhill recovery before that, I am usually a bit refreshed, and challenge myself by selecting a slightly faster rider and trying to keep up or even pass them along that section. This year, because we were finishing at an odd time, there wasn't the usual stream of roadies cruising home in the fast lane calling out "on your left" to inspire me to chase after them, so I had to look far ahead and pick people to catch to motivate me to maintain my effort. The headwind was brutal, but I put my head down and pushed hard and was totally wiped at the finish line, which is what I wanted.
