I've been wanting to get out there for a while. I think the Baldy fires are out, right?

On Wednesday at 3:15 the road was closed. I wasn't sure if maybe the fire wasn't completely out or if they were concerned since it had still been warm. I rode up to the maintenance station without any problem. I wanted to go across to Baldy but I figured if it was still closed because of the fire that was where their efforts would be concentrated. Since I was trying to get to the starbucks in Claremont where everyone meets for the Bonelli ride at 5:30 and I knew I wouldn't be over to Baldy until 4:45, I turned around and went down when I got up to the maintenance station. I didn't want to get all the way across and then be told to turn around. I didn't see anyone but two bike riders and if I didn't have to be somewhere at a certain time, I would have rode it. It will definitely be cold this weekend though.

Looks like GMR (bottom gate to top gate) and GRR (from east fork to baldy village) are both closed right now except to emergency vehicles which probably means no bikes or hikers either... :(

I was actually thinking of riding it this weekend too.

I rode up to the snow at Crystal Lake today. I went a few hundred feet past the 39.96 mile marker sign. That is the first time I have ever seen the gate at the 39.96 mile marker open. That is the top gate that closes 39 so you can't get through to Hwy. 2. I think the plow was a little bit in front of me because he had passed me going up and then I hadn't seen him again. I would have liked to have climbed a bit higher but it was foggy and misting, cold and the roads were soaked. I didn't have enough clothes because I hadn't planned on climbing that far up. I was also about 4 hrs. into my ride and worrying about how my legs are going to feel for tomorrow's race. There was snow just past 5000 ft. elevation. I went a little over two miles past that.
The gate at the bottom of GMR (East Fork) was closed as well as the gate at the GRR, GMR intersection and the bottom gate on the Glendora side of GMR. I had forgot how nice the East Fork side of GMR is without motorcycles.
