I've seen people use old chains to lock their seats in so people dont steal them. Anyone know how to do this?

it's as easy as getting a length of old chain and a chain tool to crop and close it. lots of guys use a piece of plastic tubing around the chain so it doesn't make noise or nick up your frame.
if you don't want to buy the tools/supplies, most nyc bike shops will do this in about 2 minutes for around $5.

What do people do with stolen seatposts?
All you need is !1. Old Chain 2. Tape and old inner tube
3. Chain tool.
Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to do.
Pictures? I'm curious of this lock.

Thanks for the picture... but that seems stupid to me... A chain tool and 10 more seconds and the seat/post would be gone anyway!

looking at some of the prices here...

I'd say they sell them, silly!

Maybe, but it should stop the casual thief and perhaps delay a more setious one long enough for you to come charging out of the store brandishing a baguette

i am sure the chain would rattle and make noise and scratch the frame. i think that would drive me nuts
That's why you have to wrap it in inner tube or a similar rubber type housing. ;)
I was at a frat party (don't ask) and they had a big box of stuff they had stolen. Seats w/posts, cds, movies, remote controls, batteries, oven knobs and more. I grabbed a bunch of the seats and gave 'em to kozy's bike shop. Also drew on their frat pics. If your seatlock isn't a keg tapper it should stop the average frat jock
