I'm thinking about getting pair, but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. Any advice would be super cool. Thanks :D

They're great for riding horses.
Other than that, I would refuse to work construction with anyone wearing cowboy boots. They're terrible footwear for traction.

They are very comfy once broken in. Sorta like a Brooks saddle.
My boots say "Dr Martens" and "Sidi" on them. Do those count?

#1 rule no rubber soles
I haven't worn them in 15 years, but it is like bikes in that you should stay away from the dept. stores and get them at a western wear store.

THOSE are cowboy boots. But yeah, they have NO traction on any smooth surface. Went on a date with a guy once & he slid & fell while we were walking through a ped way. Funny stuff, but not cowboy cool...

They will be slick when they are new for sure. Once the leather roughens up and you learn how to walk in them you will be fine.
If you want rubber soles or what some would call ***** kickers may bee something like this

no spd only road cleat compatable
They will look good with bibs and a jersey.

true, I was hoping I could mountain bike with boots, but road riding in my bibs with boots would be super sexy... :p

I have two pair of Lucchese (http://www.lucchese.com/) that I wear instead of dress shoes. Very comfortable, but as has already been mentioned, zero traction (especially on ice/snow).
most traditional cowboy boots will work with old-school toe clips

it's probably real hard to see but I was wearing cowboy boots on my bike in this poster

I've had the same boots for a few years now, they're holding up great, broken in really nice, and one of the most comfortable things I've put my foot in.
I've never been a big fan but got guilted into participating in a 2 for 1 sale while in Nashville a few weeks ago. I've tried on may pair of cowboy boots over the years, and tried on probably 20 pair that day. Then I tried these on: http://www.danpostboots.com/bootlocator.aspx?Cat=3&pid=142
I got them in an extra wide, and they fit so nice...very comfortable. I have a wide foot with a narrow heel, so it's difficult for me to find comfortable boots. These rock though. Oddly enough, the guy that wanted me to go in on the sale with him ended up with the same pair but in brown.
edit: my uncle once had a pair of bowling cowyboy boots. Anything is possible, I think a do-it-yourself spd is not out of the question.
Those may be a little too girlie for me :p

Those are engineer boots.
You do know what the difference between cowboy boots and engineer boots is, right?
With cowboy boots, the ****'s on the outside.

I wear them almost daily. Redwings are great. Not quite as styling as some other brands, but very comfortable and very durable.

I have a pair of Double H jump boots that I've worn almost every day for the past 3-4 years. They are finally starting to show their age. I've got several pair of cowboy boots of the same brand. Love them.

That the whole square toe men's shoe thing is a fashion statement that should have never been made. I never got it, and seeing them on a man's feet make me go into mild convulsions.

:fight: :D.. Well almost all of my non sneakers are square toes.. I like them much better than the pointy or round ones, especially so because they are less prone to creasing above the toes.

I live in Fort Worth, so maybe I'm a little bias. If you want a great boot, go with the Lucchese 1883. They are sweet.
http://www.shoes.com/Shop/productdetails.aspx?catalog_name=web&pg=5043802&p=EC1049264&CMP=OTC-GoogleBase&partnerid=GoogleBase&cpc=GoogleBase&=campaign=Lucchese&category=M&cpckw=Lucchese+Mens+1883+Paul+Pig+Boot+(Chocolate)&CAWELAID=98933554

Or if you really want something nice, although a little pricey, try these:
http://store.timsboots.com/mafualbohvaw.html
I wore cowboy boots quite a bit back in the day, my first real ones being Tony Lamas with riding heels, which made sense, as I had a horse. I got a few snickers from high school classmates who though riding heels were girly, but I knew they were the real sissies, with their walking heels. ;) Coca-cola cowboys.
I still use a nice pair of Lucchese boots in black ostrich as dress "shoes," which is entirely appropriate down here in Texas. In fact, I don't even own a pair of dress shoes.
