So I've had a 20" freestyle bmx bike for nearly a year now and all of the sudden it has started giving me a problem, which I have no idea what caused or how to fix. I am not good with the mechanics or even the terminology of bikes, but I believe it's the freespin, or freecoasting of the bike where the pedals are not supposed to move with forward or backward rear-tire motion that is not functioning correctly. I was out on a normal ride when I noticed that for some reason it was catching at a certain point and pedaling forward a few inches each time the tire went around... It wasn't much longer until all freecoasting was entirely gone, and it got worse. The bike pedals backward and forward along with the tire no matter what while making a bad grinding noise... I have no idea what's going on. Again I have no experience with this sort of thing and I'm lost. Could someone tell me what has went wrong, and what I can do, if anything, to fix this problem? I would very much appreciate any help...
