Introductions - Ayuh! You can't get there from here.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Greetings from Maine, USA. A state where showers are optional, but usually appreciated by friends and family. A state where wearing your best Dickies(the ones with no holes or grease stains) means you are probably headed to church or a funeral. A state where a man is not judged by how big his house is, but rather by how many vehicles he has jacked up in his dooryard. A state where the term "double wide" means a neighbor or friend has landed a real job. A state where "office supplies" means some more powder for the ammo loader or more chain oil for the chainsaw.

And even though I sometimes question my reasoning, I chose to open and run a bike shop in this wonderful state. Been at it quite awhile now. At some point, I imagine I'll actually make some money. It has been said before, "If you want to make a million bucks in the bike industry, start with two million."

But I like it in Maine. There's an honest approach to Life here. Most folks are skeptical by nature and ornery by choice. I like that also. Seems ot fit me well. Then there's the woods. We have got some woods. And generally, there is a tolerance for all kinds of users. Snowmobiles, ATV's, 4 wheel drives, horses, hikers, cyclists, and motorcycles all seem to have enough room to play and not irritate each other too much. Although lately, the ATVers have been getting a tad out of hand.

Anyway, I'm from Maine and I like it here.

Welcome! That's some intro, CRUM! I've always wanted to visit Maine. Living among contentious Portlanders here for the past 12 years, maybe I'd do okay over there. :p

Enjoy the conversation.

Know how you feel. Lived and worked out of Dallas for a couple of years in the 70's and decided I liked the colder climes up here. To each his own. That's why we have 50 of em. Give us all plenty of choices.

Hi, Crum! I was just searching through the Introductions for Maine threads, and found this old one of yours. I just had to tell that I've heard this joke before, except from my friend who plays jazz music. :)

Well that sounds all very nice but what is a "dooryard"?

Welcome, CRUM. I live in Massachusetts and make it up to Maine periodically. I'm thinking very seriously of doing the Lobster Ride (out of Rockland) this summer as one of my first centuries; are you familiar with it?

I haven't ridden that much (actually not at all, now that I think of it) in Maine, but the state web site promoting biking makes it look awesome.
