Does anyone know if a new/old Sturmey Archer 5 speed internal hub from the 60's(still in the box, unused) will need to be taken apart and serviced, or is it likely that it will be good to go?

I'd service it just to be sure.
No sense running it if it's dry and will fail, especially considering you'd have a hard time replacing it.

Does it have an oil port in the hub shell? If you aren't comfortable taking it apart for service, the oil port will allow you to be sure it's at least lubricated.
