I want to start carrying around a few flyers to stick under the appropriate wiper blade, or pass out to folk who show an interest (one way or the other) in my bike commuting. Not wanting to spend the time designing if not the need be - does anyone have a good example or template of such, or do you know of any advocacy group that does this that I could jump on board with? I want something that looks neat and professional, without being overly dry, and with the ability to customize for my own location and needs. Peace.
Not sure exactly what you're looking for -- something to try and convince drivers to leave their vehicles at home and ride a bike instead? Or something about driving safely in the vicinity of bicyclists?

sure, all of the above and then some, if it fits and is designed well. Just thought there may be something out there already to work from.

Better check local laws before you do that, don't want to have to pay a fine.
Here's some web resources:

There's probably a lot more resources out there on the web if you can craft a good request to a search engine.

randya, thanks for the leads, I am doing a web search too, but the links you showed me are a great start.
dchiefransom, I had thought there might be regulations or laws regarding this type of flyering but hadn't looked into it yet. Should I be looking for any specific wording (flyers, leaf lettering, posting, etc) in the books? What aggravates me the most is when I ask someone in authority about something and they don't know what I am talking about, and want to avoid that when I call the borough/city offices. My most recent example of this is when I called the state DOT publications office to inquire about which pub to buy that would have the roadway sign installation standards I need for a stream signage program I am working on, and they nor anyone available at the time, could tell me which one.

If there are restrictions, they are at a city level usually. Whomever issues permits for putting up signs for one day events, like garage sales, should be able to tell you. I don't think there are any guidelines on format, just some places cite you for putting them out without permission.

Both Seattle and Portland have a fair contingent of 'Poster Nazis' that are trying to prevent flyering on utility phone poles for music and other community events, in the name of *safety* and *beautification* (e.g. gentrification); Seattle so far has gotten the upper hand in terms of enforcement. In Portland, it's mostly locals who tear down flyers; the City talks tough but hasn't really mounted a serious anti-flyer campaign yet. I'm tall so I get 'em up high where they can't reach 'em but they still can be read. Plus you can ask bike friendly businesses to post flyers in their windows if you're worried about the legalities of using utility poles, etc. If you're flyering individual cars, I really wouldn't worry too much about it, commercial advert people do that all the time.
