Jan 1965 to 1970 Royal Marines- Saw action on the Boxing team and Burma.
That boxing team was the excuse why I Got posted to The Arctic- Gibraltar- Some parts of Europe that I am not supposed to talk about as I was incorporated into the Navy boxing team for that. And why eventually Burma that led to an injury that cut short my service.

Not even close to being a vet, but it's odd to see this post when only an hour ago I ran across my draft card (1972) while cleaning out some stuff.

Bunch of duty stations listed in another thread.
Retired as an O-5 (Commander) back to my hometown.
Really liked the first 18 years - not so much the last 2.
If I had a wish come true this day, it would be that no additional people would ever be killed in any military conflict.
Alas, that will not happen.
Makes me sad that it is so.

+1 on that I was in the last group of the lottery that got drawn for 19 year olds in 1971 my number was 91 a friend of mine that was born in 1952 and had that number the year before got drafted. They ended the draft and I never got called. Flirted with the Air force but to make a long story short never joined. In retrospect I wish I had then I wouldn't have married my first wife :( not that I'm bitter :) I would have been gone from my hometown.

Thank you all for your service. We should say it more than once a year. I came very close to joining the army, even took the physical, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Used to be one of the best duty stations in the world. Most stuff moved back to the States now. Also the population surrounding the base has grown enormously. Lots of traffic etc. Not the place it used to be (for better or worse). Stationed there 81-83; went back in 2005 - hardly recognized the place at first.

I can't raise my hand since I never served in the military. But I will raise my hand for my father and his three brothers who served in WWII, my two uncles who served in the Korean War, my brother-in-law who served in Vietnam and my nephew and two son-in-laws who served in Desert Storm.
Several other family members (women included) have served in our military during peace times and a few who are in the military now.
