I'm going to be in Port Angeles in a couple of weekends and am looking for a couple of road rides in the 30-50mi range. Would like to avoid busy highways and roads. Don't mind hills but I understand the road to Hurricane is closed to bicyclists. Any info, links or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve
My wife and I were just there this last weekend. Actually we stayed in Sequim, which is just east of Port Angeles. We did 50 miles of the Discovery Trail on Saturday. We started in Sequim and went on the trail to Port Angeles, out onto the spit at the port then back to Sequim and added another mile or so around town to make sure we got in the 50 miles. This was my wife's first 50 mile day. The trail is paved most of the way with some hard packed gravel or dirt short stretches near Port Angeles. Tires that are 1 1/2" wide work great. Also there are port-a-potties every 2 to 4 miles along the way. (Important for my wife.) It's best to pick up the free bike map at the Visitor Center. You can't miss it. It's on the same street as the ferries about half a block east. We saw five deer and a raccoon on the trail. Best of all no glass or trash. Here is a link, not the best one but. . . http://www.peninsulatrailcoalition.com/GeneralRegionMap.htm Yes the Hurricane Ridge road is closed to bikes five miles up the road due to road construction.

check my response on the cascade website.
the ride to Joyce, then over to Lake Crescent is the best 30-50 mile ride out thataways. I've ridden out PA way extensively.

Bummer. I was hoping to make this part of our honeymoon trip to Victoria in August. I guess not.
Considering I don't own a bike suitable for carrying a week's worth of stuff up mountains it's probably for the best.
How is the ride to Neah Bay?
