I would like to go with you, but I have a hybrid bike and the avg. speed for me is around 14-15 miles an hour...not like you guys. I commute and ride regularly, but I can't keep up with you folks and I would PO some people...I do ride the RR reseration and the CVNP on a regular basis---we are so lucky to have those parks systems near us.

Unspoken rule of BF group rides (in my experience) is that they are no-drop rides...we either keep the pace to something the slowest of us can maintain, or regroup often. I've been known to drop back and make sure nobody has to ride (or fix a problem) alone...so no worries!
OK, I'll propose we meet up at Wallace Lake and ride out to Brecksville reservation and back, with the option of returning or going further once we get into Brecksville. Say 10am, Memorial Day.

I'd be in for a memorial day ride. In the RR I like the route from W130th to the marina at the Lakewood/Rocky River border 45 miles round trip.

Or even from that little parking area at the top of the hill just before Ridge Rd. Great downhill to start, nice climb to finish. :D

That would be an even 50 miles. That climb doesn't seem too bad until you're struggling up it.:thumb:

There has been talk about riding in the RR reservation, and the CVNP, etc. but it always falls through. So here is another thread to get us back on track and maybe we can actually get a ride. I like the idea of the RR reservation because myself, crimson, garysol, and a few others look like they are from the westside. I would have no problem doing a ride in the CVNP or the eastside metroparks either...
I think it would be nice to have everyone ride together- we could regroup every few miles, and everyone can find a group they are comfortable riding with.I'm usually booked, but Gary and I do the Spin ride (actually, I'm not sure about Gary too much anymore) on Wednesdays from the bike shop on Madison/Marlowe at 6pm.
If you ever wanna get together, shoot me a PM, school is practically over now.

I'm going to be there tomorrow. I'm not sure which group I'm going to be riding with. My cousin rides A which is probably too advanced for me due to my wimpy guads and lack of ever riding in a group, and my dad and uncle will probably be in the D group. Either way, I'll be there in one group or the other. If you see me say hi- i have a red atmos helmet and i'll wear my black/white assos jersey.

Okay guys.....Lets arrange this thing. Lets pic a time and a place. I would recommend Doing a route out of Lorain county because of the country roads there we can actually ride 2 or 3 across and not be blocking any traffic. The Spin ride is all well and good but there is very little BS time during that ride. I don't think a hammer ride is the place for the BF meetup.

i agree that a bf ride would be more fun riding 2-3 abreast shooting the **** than a guad-fest. i'd be willing to drive out to meet up with you guys out there in lorain county.

Leinad knows every farm road in the area so we should probably let him make up a route. What do guys think mileage wise....40, 50 maybe?
nocondorfx
06-29-08, 02:59 PM
40-50 sounds good to me. Want to make it sometime after next week?? In enough advance for everyone?
Ok you guys how about Saturday the 5th or the 12 th. Resturant stop?? I would say let's go to Wellington or Spencer both about 20-25 miles out from Elyria. We could meet at the Trailhead in Elyria, that would be easy to get to and give out directions too! What about a time?? 9 sound good?

06-29-08, 03:20 PM
You want to plan on the 12th?? 9am I'm probably going to be worn out from the 4th festivities... I'll skip a SJ mtb group ride for some country roads.
12 would work for me!! Gary how about you? How do we get everyone in the area to know what we are doing?

We have our last T-Ball game on the 12th at 11:00am :( Would the 13th (Sunday) be ok?
Sunday the 13th is the Akron Bike Club, Beautiful Country Ride in Medina Ohio. We could however set something up with that!!

That may be a little far from some. How about July 19th (Saturday)? It would give everyone plenty of heads up time.

It is a paved trail that we will utilize to get us out to the country roads. Leinad is working on a 45-50 mile route with breakfast/lunch stop included. Should be nice :)

Chip.......Not sure of Cheri's cycling ability so I would say that is your call. No one will be left behind but I would hate to have a 14mph ride either.

It's been a few years since I've been on the Trail. Everything near the air conditioner / furnace factory looks a lot different.

She's quite capable of 17mph average for a rolling metric and can hang on my wheel on the flats at 23-25, but she isn't good at accelerations, so I often have to wait for her after stops, crossing tracks, turning corners, etc., so I think I'll have her take the opportunity to visit her parents in Amherst and our daughter/granddaughter there in Elyria. We're on vacation the following week, so she'll have plenty of chances to ride with me then.
What time y'all wanna meet?

Do you have a finalized plan? Date? Time?
Did they move the trailhead? It was at the factory gate.
Did they ever build any restrooms? The only ones I can remember were the McDonald's restaurant and a Redhead portapotty.

I think the trailhead you are thinking of with the Mcdonalds is in Oberlin. We will be meeting in Elyria. As far as bathrooms go there are plenty of locations that you pass on the way to the start location that I do not think it will be a problem.

Yes, the McDonald's is in Oberlin near the old railroad station.
Does the trail have a web-page?

Spoke with Dan last week, and he informed of this upcoming ride.
As we speak, count me in. Weather will be the go/no go factor. I have desired to ride with someone from the forum. And it looks like I may get the super bonus of riding with a few of you.
I will call Dan, Saturday night, once we get a for real weather picture for Sunday morning.

I Saw Chipcom at the Twin Sizzler today. Didn't really get a chance to talk because it was like 1 min before the start. But I'll see all you guys Sunday.
Mini-race report:
This was my first race(so i did the citizen race) and I was feeling good. On the only real hill on Kenard I broke away. Kept a pretty good gap for about 4-5 miles, before the pack ate me. Then on smith road towards the end I was pulling the last 6 miles or so.(newbie mistake #1) Coming around the final turn in the #1 spot still, I went a little too wide trying not to hit one of the massive potholes and had to tap my brake(newbie mistake #2) causing me a bad start on the final sprint. In the final sprint I ended up 4th. I guess you live and you learn. It was definitely fun though!
my face explains how i felt on that final sprint.

Awesome job.... I almost made it out there but my bed was WAY to comfortable this morning...
nodorfx, nice job! Looking forward to meeting you Sunday.
BTW, in the same race(Twin Sizzler) my wife took first in her age group and because the women all start together she was also 5th over all. Her first race as well! Always told her she could do it. AND
Son took second in his group too!! Got sweeped up by the 55-59 group just as he and his rival where about to sprint the finish and the other guy got away, first race as well. Not a bad day---well except---
I however didn't far as well took 8th, got attacked on a small rise on Vandemark and could tack back on, oh well there is always next year!!
See ya sunday
