General Cycling Discussion - Running sentiments - translate pretty well to cycling

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This essay was posted to a running group I subscribe to.

OK, so its not cycling but the sentiments translate well for us. I found it an inspiring read.

THANK YOU!!! And the sentiments do pertain to bikers as well as runners. I'm getting long in the tooth and have experienced much of what Roger Hart is talking about, both running and on the bike. A very fine piece! Thanks, again for posting it. lj

+1; Interesting.

I'm out of mod points; I'd give it more. ;) Great read.

Good piece! And the Missouri connection doesn't hurt, either. ;)

That is exactly how I feel about my cycling. I often think about how much others miss when they are driving. It is fun to get out and live a little.

As a 16 year 'jogger' road warrior. I've found numerous nails in the road, an occasional pistol cartridge (falls out of somebodys truck), done first aid on a girl attacked by a large rott until the ambulance arrived, made friends and waved to strangers, kicked a charging dog, etc.. etc..

Diamondback - I saw you said you were a jogger in your intro.

I currently count running as my first love and the driving force behind any training I do. But it doesn't match cycling for **KIT**!

Framesets and cranks and shifters and cleats and shoes and pedals and computers. I love all that stuff!

Seriously tho', cycling has saved my life as an alternat means of exercise whenever I've incurred an injury from running. Like now :( I have a calf muscle tear after a cross-country race 2 weeks ago. It'll be another week at least before I can run again, so I have to cycle like mad to keep my weight down and aerobic fitness up.

a runner in a shoe store is like a rider in a bike shop, just trying to get that perfect fit, support, and cushion. 8000 pairs of shoes to chose from and try on.

It's cold, wet and windy here, but after reading that truly excellent piece I am gonna get out my heaviest dirtiest bike and do a ride! Thanks for the motivation.
